Heresy Era World Eaters – Jetbikes built

Heresy Era World Eaters – Jetbikes built

The hobby ADHD has settled in on me a bit of late. Pinballing around the various projects lurking on the shelves up in the hobby loft, my eye fell on the package of Jetbikes I’d picked up several months back for use with the (now defunct) Heresy-era World Eaters I had been working on. While there are a number of companies doing jetbikes these days (many of which are very, very cool) none of them really matched the artwork from Visions of Heresy as well as I’d hoped: However, BigDaddy of Blight Wheel miniatures had, at one point long ago, shown off a set of World Eaters jetbikes that were darn near exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately they’re not available anymore as far as I know but I’d managed to grab a set before they disappeared and they’ve lurked in the Closet of Doom ever since. But no longer! There are eight of them (sacred number of Khorne and all), and I spent some time rummaging through the leftover bits from the infantry builds to come up with enough Mk. V torsos and heads to match up with the legs and arms included in the kit. For the unit champion I added a few more Khorne-esque bits, including the ol’ “bunny ears” helmet and some extra chains and spikes. I also scattered a few bolt pistols and chain axes throughout the unit as well, and found enough RT-era backpacks to match up as well. However, now that they’re built I have no idea what I want to do with them.

Pre Heresy Emperor's Children – Land Raider test model in process

Pre Heresy Emperor's Children – Land Raider test model in process

Hobby ADHD? Whatever do you mean? It’s been murderously hot up in the hobby loft of late so I haven’t done a whole lot of painting worth taking pictures of. Prior to the whole shake-up causing me to offload the World Eaters, I was slowly gathering parts for the next Heresy-Era army, the Emperor’s Children. One of the things I had planned to use in that army is a Mk IIb Land Raider I’ve had sitting on the shelf for years and years. Originally it was going to be a transport for a Adeptus Custodes army, but that really never got off the ground. As such, I was stuck with a tank liberally festooned with Aquilas and Eagles, which is against the fluff for the majority of the legions, as only the Custodes and the Emperor’s Children were allowed to wear them throughout most of the Heresy. So with the Custodes out the window, the tank instead got a few lashings of purple and gold! Of course, with my desire to paint marines on the wane at the moment, this will likely go back on the shelf for a while, but I figured I’d share the pics in process in the meantime! I did work a little on the two Tech-Priest models I’d purchased from Blight Wheel miniatures, and will get some pics in process of those up soon…

Heresy Era World Eaters – 1st Terminator squad painted

Heresy Era World Eaters – 1st Terminator squad painted

Got some hobby time in over the weekend, and polished off the first of what will end up being several squads of Heresy-era World Eaters Terminators. This unit is the 1st company, 1st terminator squad which I envision as being composed of veterans from when they were still the War Hounds, hence the overall restraint in the blood and skulls factor. For the most part, my veterans could be considered Pre-Heresy in that respect (of course the stonking great chain-axes they favored even then had to have aroused a bit of suspicion…). The second terminator squad will be Angron’s primarch honor guard, ‘The Devourers’, and will be quite a bit less restrained in their favor of Khorne – the Visions of Heresy artwork shows them in the much more familiar “blood, bone and brass” paint scheme, which I think will contrast nicely with these guys! Overall I’m well pleased with the torso and shoulder kit, and the combi-weapons worked out nicely, though in future builds I’m planning on beefing up the magazine, which I think would help the overall look. The Devourers will utilize a similar torso and shoulder kit with some minor variations that I quite like (includes a gorget in front of the helmet) and I feel are the closest to the art of the set. Unfortunately out of the five variant torso/shoulder kits, there are two styles that don’t fit the aesthetic I’m going for, so they’ll be squirreled away in the Closet of Doom for use with the Emperor’s Children and Death Guard I plan to (eventually) work on. Never too soon to gather bits for a future project!

Heresy Era World Eaters – Bezerkers painted

Heresy Era World Eaters – Bezerkers painted

Had a little hobby time and painted up the Berzerkers! Khorne be… Er… I mean The Emperor be praised! After building and painting a bunch of smaller, solo models it was a bit of a chore to batch paint a mess of infantry. On the up side, it’s nice to be able to fill in a bunch of squares on the painting chart in green! In the Tempus Fugitives list the Berzerkers are purchased as a unit of 8, with the option to add a further 8 models to the unit for a total of 16. I was pleased to note that the Fantasy Chaos Marauders box set is also a unit of 16, so I had enough bare arms to kit out the entire unit (though there are occasional power armoured arms here and there). Coupled with the more mutated shoulder pad from GW and a mix of bare heads and torsos the really take on a wild, murderous air. Perfect! I did allow for the unit to be broken up into two 8 man squads via the helmeted and non-helmeted heads. which helps distinguish them on the table top. The champion was given a cloak from the Marauders sprue and I also went with a double-handed grip on the chain-axe. The axe blades were given a bit of blood spatter, and the boots were given a bit of a going over with some mud wash

Heresy Era World Eaters – Storm Eagle and Berzerkers in progress

Heresy Era World Eaters – Storm Eagle and Berzerkers in progress

The Forge World order I’d made over a month ago finally showed up last week, and I immersed myself in a frenzy of clipping, washing, rinsing, and straightening resin over the course of several evenings. Eventually I managed to get a few things built and primered, though nothing’s fully completed as yet. Nevertheless, thought some pics in process might be in order!

Heresy Era World Eaters – Chaplains

Heresy Era World Eaters – Chaplains

So the next couple models were actually painted last week, but the machine spirit my pict upload codifier was displeased and needed to be placated. In a bid to continue with the 1-kill-point-a-week painting challenge that Dark Future Games is putting on, I painted up the pair of Chaplains for the World Eaters: The first one will be joining a 16-strong unit of Berzerkers in a Storm Eagle – his Litanies of Hate will come in handy when they wade in swinging their chainaxes! The other is designed to accompany the Assault Squads – in the Tempus Fugitives lists the Assault units may be 10-man squads with jump packs, or alternately one big 20-man squad on foot, so I magnetized the backpack to allow him to use the standard pack, or utilize a jump pack as the situation dictates. The plan is to use the GW world eater shoulder pad on the Berzerkers, so Chaplain Rennan wears one as well to tie him in with the unit. He also got a bionic arm from the Forge World upgrade it, and both of them are armed with the heresy-era bolt pistols. Interesting side note – I’m literally down to the last two models still to paint in the army as it stands. Almost 100% finished! Granted, the model count in the army at the moment is twelve, so it’s not like that’s any sort of impressive accomplishment. Hah! Still waiting on the Forge World order from nearly three weeks ago for the lion’s share of the bits required to actually BUILD any of the rest of the army. On the plus side, the order from DragonForge arrived, so now there are bases galore!

Heresy Era World Eaters – Terminator test build

Heresy Era World Eaters – Terminator test build

Not a whole lot of hobby time of late, coupled with the fact that my Forge World order is going into its second week of delay, means that I’ve not had much progress. I did, however, manage to build the first test model for the first of two terminator squads:

Heresy Era World Eaters – Battle Company Captain painted

Heresy Era World Eaters – Battle Company Captain painted

Next model done – The Captain of the 7th Cohort, 3rd (Battle) Company. There’s a half dozen old metal armor marks banging around in the Closet of Doom, so while I wait for the FW order to arrive I thought I’d do another test model.

Heresy Era World Eaters – Angron build complete

Heresy Era World Eaters – Angron build complete

All the bits finally arrived to build the Angriest Ron (as opposed to our own Ron from FTW ), so I cobbled together all the parts into one hulking monstrosity!
