Fimir – What’s on the Table

Fimir – What’s on the Table

Just a quick post to reiterate that the fimir are still very much in progress, in case anyone was worried what with all the genestealer cult talk lately… At the moment I’m just finishing the last of the half dead. I have some basing to finish, and then they’re done! I’m very happy with them, and I’m looking forward to popping their cherry on the tabletop. Just hitting the painting table are the first of the marlwyrm monstrous cavalry. I’m considering how to paint the shields of the fimir riders. Some of the results of the verdigris effects I tried on the half dead should work great on the detail on the shields, which are from Scibor. I also have some drool techniques using various plastic glues to test before I apply them to the maw of the wyrms. Fun times!

Adeptus Mechanicus – Blight Wheel Prometheus Knight Titan build

Adeptus Mechanicus – Blight Wheel Prometheus Knight Titan build

Today has been my first real day off since the Christmas holiday, and I thought I’d get some build time in! A couple days ago a package arrived from Blight Wheel Miniatures bearing their new Prometheus Knight Titan, and I spent some time getting everything trimmed, cleaned up and washed off. I’ve been a long time fan of BigDaddy’s work, and own several of his previous iterations of Knight Titans, and I have to say that they just keep getting better. This new kit has tons of great detail and is an incredibly crisp and detailed cast.

Imperial Guard – Penitents Squad from Victoria Lamb painted

Imperial Guard – Penitents Squad from Victoria Lamb painted

Managed to get a bit of brush time in over the last couple days, and I’ve started the process by casting my eye over the primered minis waiting patiently on the ‘to-be-painted’ shelves. I’ve felt as though I’d been neglecting the Guard a bit, so I dusted off a unit of Penitents that I’d ordered from Victoria Lamb nearly 6 months ago and got stuck in! Absolutely lovely miniatures, they’re a good mix of poses and the lasrifles really look neat. The selection of heads is great as well, there’s some really well done sculpts. I especially like the bomb collars, and the one guy with the Hannibal Lecter mask. I went with the standard hazard orange jumpsuits, and gave the sergeant the ‘standard’ dark blue fatigues that the rest of the Mordian 7th wears. Easy peasy! Another nice touch on the rear torsos are number plates for identification of each penitent (numbers written in with a 0.05 micron pen), and a few of them bear evidence of a recent whipping, which is a nice touch. All in all I’m really rather pleased with how this unit turned out, and am looking forward to trying them out on the table.

Warbases – Great Gaming Accessories

Warbases – Great Gaming Accessories

I’ve recently been looking for a company that will make custom acrylic counters for my fimir army to represent the many and various effects that can befall them during a game, as in the heat of battle I can often forget anything and everything up to and including my name and where I am. I had considered Litko , but their custom counters are pretty expensive, though the variety is huge. Conveniently enough, I got a tip off today of a company that does exactly what I wanted, Warbases . They will make counters in a variety of shapes and colours with custom text, and for only €0.35 a counter. Perfecto, that’s me sorted. I was perusing the rest of the site, and it turns out to be a little gaming accessory treasure trove. Laser cut buildings at much cheapness, bases, movement trays, shield sets and a pile of other bits and pieces. Very useful stuff indeed. One upcoming thing did catch my eye, and that was the boats they have coming up soon

Kickstarter Kingdom Death funded at 2 MILLION!

Kickstarter Kingdom Death funded at 2 MILLION!

Wow… Kingdom Death kickstarter ended with a huge bang of success of 2 million dollars! It’s been a long ride for me the past few days trying to come to a decision. The last few hours was updated with lots of rewards, so many choices! My initial plan was to get the deluxe survivors set along with all the optional character rewards. But there were simply too many options rewards offering and the hole in my pocket will definitely be a super big one. Hard decision, in the end I decided to give up getting the game set (which I convinced myself that I probably wont be playing it so much vs painting the miniatures) and just get all the option rewards only. Also by not getting the deluxe game set, I can’t get my hands on the initial 4 resin survivors miniatures, oh no. Anyone changing their minds about the initial 4 resin survivors miniatures, let me now. Even with the rewards options only, it has already burned a big hole in my pocket! Now I guess Adam from Kingdom Death will be a busy man. Definitely looking forward to the miniatures this year-end. And once again, congratulations Adam… Cheers!

I’m back – return from the old year

I’m back – return from the old year

2013 is here and I am back in the saddle. I hope you all had a grand chrimbo and happy new year to you all. While you all have being feasting (I too have being feasting!) I’ve been at it like a machine! I have almost touched up my D.E army. I have done all Venoms (nine in total) and a single Ravager. I should be able to do the last two Ravagers tonight easy peasy. With those done I just need to repair Baron Sathonyx conversion (blade broke off pointy stabby stick) and then touch up the infantry, which should be simple as only runefang on the weapon, dwarf bronze or whatever it is called on the armour plates and goblin green for the eyes. I am hoping I can show you some pics next week of the updated painted army 🙂 My Canoptek Wraith numbers have multiplied and now I have the full twelve. I got the last three built over Christmas and have them all undercoated – looks better than bare plastic. Once the D.E are done I’ll purchase some rhinox brown or whatever it is called for the base and get me some devlan mud wash – dammit why did G.W have to change the paint names!? This then will fully finish my Necron force; I am looking forward to my ‘glowing’ Wraiths
