Abaddon the Despoiler challenges you!

Abaddon the Despoiler challenges you!

I’ve got a complete boner over Abaddon lately; this guy is the ultimate beat stick unit in 40k and I think is perhaps the best single close combat model in the entire game. To show why Abaddon is the Warmaster I think going to do some 1v1 challenges and test Abaddon’s mettle. Behold the Warmaster! Before Abaddon starts getting into scrapes lets see what Abaddon can do. Abaddon is a super charged S.M Captain and is basically

My beef with Chaos Daemons

My beef with Chaos Daemons

I have been upset with the Chaos Daemons codex since the book hit the shelves back in March. Yup I was one of those who spammed Flamers and Screamers and those units getting nerfed was well deserved, but they didn’t need to be hit that hard. Though this was one of the many problems with Chaos Daemons. Random is Random I know it is in the nature of fluff of Chaos Daemons to be random, but I really cannot be dealing with it. I find it makes games a lot more long winded as you have to make note of the random gifts you roll for and also random psychic powers – that’s two things randomly rolled for. I know you can remember the abilities easy enough, but when learning lists it makes it tough as you need to remember what model has what. I know you can just write them down on some paper etc, but I do not want bits of paper and other bits floating about while I am trying to play toy soldiers. It’s just another thing you have to remember about and it isn’t second nature like other 40k rules. Lets get ready to suuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccccccccck it Because that’s exactly what the troops do; suck donkey big. All of the troops blow goats.

CSM Raw Power

CSM Raw Power

Out of all the 6th codices which have been rapidly appearing the last nine months, Chaos Space Marines is probably the weakest. Unlike Tau, Eldar, Ravenwing and even Chaos Daemons, Chaos Space Marines do not having anything uber cool and destructive. All they have is the old units along with a few new units put into a hardback book. Hell they do not even have an army wide special rule as standard, they have to pay for Veterans of the Long War. Tau get supporting fire, Eldar battlefocus etc. So I am having my little moan about CSM, but I am not going to give up on them. In recent games I’ve found the way to get things done is the old fashioned way and that’s a shit load of bolters for infantry and some hard ass support. Looking through the codex here are the hard ass units: Abaddon the Despoiler – Serious choppy in combat, 4 attacks base,

Army Lists: Chaos Daemons ‘No Spam’ – 2,000 points

Army Lists: Chaos Daemons ‘No Spam’ – 2,000 points

Another no spam for you to have a gander at, this time Chaos Daemons. Chaos Daemons ‘No Spam’ – 2,000 points HQ Daemon Prince – daemon of slaanesh, warp forged armour, daemonic flight & 2 x greater rewards Daemon Prince – daemon of slaanesh, warp forged armour, daemonic flight & 2 x greater rewards 2 x Heralds of Tzeentch – mastery level 3 psker, locus of conjuration & 1 x exalted reward Troops 10 x Pink Horrors 10 x Pink Horrors 10 x Plaguebearers 10 x Plaguebearers Fast Attack 16 x Flesh Hounds 16 x Flesh Hounds Heavy Support Soul Grinder – daemon of tzeentch & phlegm bombardment Soul Grinder – daemon of tzeentch & phlegm bombardment Total: 1,992 The Princes ideally will be swapping one greater reward for the lash of despair, they attack flyers or zoom down the flanks to they can little return fire. Soul Grinders can either take a flank with the Princes or roll up the centre, their phlegm should be in range either way. Flesh Hounds will move up the centre, so you have two fast moving units on the ground then two fast moving units in the air and two clunking metal things coming behind. All of the units are supporting together and while they maybe spread out, it will force the opponent to pick what to focus fire on and the opponent’s guns will be spread out – I suggest you only do this if you’re going second. If you do go first then just put everything on a single flank and do refused flank deployment or drop it all in the centre so you can go either way. The Horrors can move up mid field and camp with the Heralds. You can switch one of the Heralds’ powers for prescience if you like, however I would be tempted to use all mastery levels to fire flickering fire; in total the unit will be firing 6D6 shots.

Many Daemon lists – which one is the best?

I have been hard at work trying to make some viable Chaos Daemons lists lately. As I mentioned in this post

Top Chaos Daemon Units

Top Chaos Daemon Units

Want to know the best units in the Chaos Daemons codex? Then take a butchers below. * These units are not ranked in any particular order 1. Bloodthirster The Bloodthirster is the ultimate bad ass and taker of names. The big red dude rocks with a typical monstrous creature profile and brings a mighty WS10, BS10, W5, I9 and A6 – this dude is seriously laying down the hurt. The Bloodthirster comes with a 3+ armour save, lash of khorne (S6 AP2 pistol) and axe of khorne (wound of 6+ is instagib). As the ‘Thirster is a daemon of khorne it gets furious charge, S7 smashy. Bloodthirster has options of daemonic rewards; best taking a couple of greater rewards as they give survivable buffs. If you take the normal greater reward, which is the blade of blood, then the Bloodthirster gets the rampage special rule (+D3 attacks if out numbered in close combat) and would get

Obliterator Daemon Prince WIP

Damn, I haven’t been here for a while. It’s been rough 2 months for me. I missed Tau release and some other things. So I decided to do at least something and furthermore to show off a little. Here are photos of my latest creation. An Obliterator Daemon Prince for my Iron Warriors army.

Soul Grinder – any good for skyfire?

Soul Grinder – any good for skyfire?

The Soul Grinder is one of the units in the Chaos Daemons codex which can have skyfire. At the moment the internet is going bat shit crazy about how awesome the Soul Grinder is for smacking flyers out the sky. The Soul Grinder costs 135 points and is a BS3 13-13-11 walker. As standard it comes with the harvester cannon which is heavy 3 S7 AP4 and has the skyfire rule. The Grinder has a few others things too which it can get from wargear/daemonic gifts, though we will worry about them later as they are not the point of this article. On average the Soul Grinder will hit 1.5 times when firing the harvester. To make it easier I’ll round it up to 2. Here’s the figures for shooting against armour value: AV10 – 66% chance to damage – 1.32 causes damage AV11 – 50% chance to damage – 1 causes damage AV12 – 33% chance to damage – 0.66 causes damage I am not going to do any higher than AV12 as the article is about skyfire for the Soul Grinder and I do not think there are any flyers which are AV13 – if there are then please let me know and I’ll add. So a single Soul Grinder doesn’t have much odds against a single flyer
