Alongside the tournament itself I always run a two part painting competition. The first part is the obligatory Best Painted Army whereas the second is part of Blog Wars’ focus on Special Characters namely Best Painted Special Character. As ever there were some excellent entries, there were a few armies we’ve seen before alongside some excellent new entries. Best Painted Army The winner in this category was Hendrik Müller-Joswig who is Blog Wars’ first ever international player having travelled from Germany for the event! Whilst he may have placed 28th in the tournament his army is a worthy winner with 8 votes. Another notable mention goes to Chris Benstead's Chaos Space Marine force. Chris has previously had painting
Before I go any further I wanted to point out that at the start of the year one of my resolutions was to push for 200 followers. Well we’re about half way through 2013 and I’m up to 200 today!! I’ll have to look through my other resolutions and see how I’m getting on with them! Anyway, a big thanks to everyone who reads, the followers thing means more to me than pageviews so I really appreciate it. Blog Wars 5 was held at the North West Gaming Centre in Stockport today. We had new record of 30 players all competing for the crown which had been previously controlled by Andy Humphris. I knew we’d be having a new winner today and, without any further beating about the bush, I’m pleased to announce that winner as Franco Marrufo with his dirty, dirty broadside spam Tau and Eldar list. He never really looked in danger of not winning throughout the day but it would’ve been interesting to see him play Andy for it. Maybe next time eh? Chris Benstead took second with a Chaos Space Marines army that he hadn’t used before the day. Respect to Chris for that but it doesn’t say much about the rest of us! In third place was Rob McDougall who beat his good mate Frank Marsh by a single point.
Just a quick post to reiterate that the fimir are still very much in progress, in case anyone was worried what with all the genestealer cult talk lately… At the moment I’m just finishing the last of the half dead. I have some basing to finish, and then they’re done! I’m very happy with them, and I’m looking forward to popping their cherry on the tabletop. Just hitting the painting table are the first of the marlwyrm monstrous cavalry. I’m considering how to paint the shields of the fimir riders. Some of the results of the verdigris effects I tried on the half dead should work great on the detail on the shields, which are from Scibor. I also have some drool techniques using various plastic glues to test before I apply them to the maw of the wyrms. Fun times!
The Warp Storm Table from the new Chaos Daemons codex has created quite a bit of stir among Daemon players. At first glance you think what the douche, but I think we need to take a deeper look. Lets find out what the table does and how it works. You roll 2D6 at the start of the shooting phase and compare to the table. You only use this table if Daemons are your primary detachment. Here are the results: 2 – All Daemons take daemonic instability test. 3 – Select a random character with the daemonic instability rule, that model must take daemonic instability test on 3D6. 4 – Daemons suffer -1 to invulnerable saves. 5 – Units containing Daemons of Nurgle and enemy units take a S4 AP5 large blast (can scatter) on the roll of a 6+
Hello all, I haven’t made any progress on the Lascannon team, but the rest of the first infantry squad for my Grethcin Infantry Tactical Strikeforce (GITS) is painted and I’m happy with the results.
I have not said much lately regarding the latest Chaos codex. Mainly that’s because I do not see myself as an authority on it. There are those better at hammering out competitive lists and fine tuning point efficiency. So, I … Continue reading → The post Chaos Bikers: My Experiment and Results appeared first on Creative Twilight .
The fourth Blog Wars tournament took place this weekend at Maunsfeld Gaming (Maelstrom’s old “Eye of the Storm” venue). Normally my coverage of the event would begin with the results, cover the painting competition entries and then move on to battle reports from my games at the event. There’s one slight problem with the battle report part…. I didn’t end up playing! With one participant unable to make it through sickness and my back-up not able to take part I was merely a spectator this time around. However, all was not lost because this meant that I was able to appreciate the event as a whole which will hopefully make future events better. More on that later but for now here’s a rundown of what went off this time around. Incidently there will be a post about the painting competition still. Like a Monkey with a Miniature Cymbal First things first, as you may have read over on the Sons blog, Andy Humphris managed to take victory for the fourth time out of four! This prompted many a discussion about what we can do to stop it happening again. Let me say before I go on that I don’t for a second think that Andy didn’t deserve victory all 4 times
Hey guys! Kinda a slow week so far in regards to painting. I’ve got 3 Ghost Arks and some Tomb Blades I’ve been working on for a client and friend of mine, so expect some Necrons to come up soon! Anyways, I figured I’d throw up a picture of the Fantasy Empire Chapel I was working on at work today. I’d started on it a while ago but wasn’t happy with the results. So I refocused my efforts and got this so far. Enjoy! The tan areas are supposed to be a marble-esque look, and was achieved by basecoating the area with Stormvermin Fur (Charadon Granite), then mixing in old Bleached Bone and drybrushing that up to white. The Sigmar Comet on the sign is freehanded, and there’s some script on the right side of the building I didn’t get in the shot. I’ve got some MDF in my car for an art project (SLW-related art project; stay tuned!) so I’m thinking a base would look nice with this model. We’ll see, its been a while since I was in a terrain kick. Anyways, more shots of the chapel later this week along with the shambling hordes of Necrons! Granesh
Yet another great turnout for voting. With 105 votes it’s the best turnout on a poll yet. It also lends more value to the results with such a large sampling. Speaking of, here they are. With a strong lead the … Continue reading →
