More Blog Wars 4 Updates

More Blog Wars 4 Updates

Thought I’d answer a couple of questions that have arisen this week. Before I do let me remind you that tickets will still be available until midnight next Saturday. This is also the deadline for army list submission. Maelstrom Games Collapse As you may be reading across the internet, Maelstrom Games has gone under. I wanted to get a post up pretty quickly to prevent any concerns that Blog Wars 4 won’t be going ahead. It is my understanding that whilst the retail arm of the business is going into liquidation, the Eye of the Storm venue is still trading normally. I want to reassure everyone coming to BW4 that their money is safe. If I’m forced to cancel the event because it turns out the venue is closing then everyone will get their ticket price back. Therefore if you’re having doubts about coming along because of the Maelstrom drama then rest assured that you won’t be taking a risk in buying a ticket! One final point on this. I’ve yet to clarify whether the venue still has a store attached to it.

You Will be Exterminated!

You Will be Exterminated!

Yes, yes, I know. That’s a Dalek quote but I thought it would work just as well for Necrons. Hi there! My name is Tom, a.ka. Monster Rain and Magilla Gurilla has been kind enough to ask for my contributions to this fine blog. I have been playing Warhammer 40,000 for nearly 5 years (give or take) and have played a few different armies but I’ve never fallen out of love with my first: Necrons. From the first time I picked up the Big Gray Book (I started in Fourth Edition) I liked the way the Necrons looked and their background story as being evil undead/robots bent on destroying all life really appealed to me, probably due to the fact that I was working a second job in the retail sector at the time. I had no idea about the game rules at that point so I didn’t realize at first that I had picked one of the more overpowered armies available! Well, Fifth Edition came along and changed all that soon enough. That’s when I decided to expand my collection to Space Marines and later, Chaos. Even as I played these other armies, though, I kept being drawn back to the Necrons

This ones for Adz…

This ones for Adz…

1st June – where did the year go. My mate Adz has just pointed out I haven’t blogged in a while. I’ve been lurking on blogs in my roll, commenting on the occasional post, but my own blog has languished. Causes – a mix of apathy and loss of appetite for the hobby following GW’s recent decisions and product offerings; and preferring to spend my free time with my family and the dog (he ate his kennel – such a stupid dog). It’s mainly the GW issues though. My personal view is they have royally shafted us here in Oz (and the rest of the non-European world) and the Finecast thing is a bit of a fizzer. I openly admit I am a user of both Maelstrom and Waylands. My disposable income needs to be spread across a number of interests and I like to maximise my spending dollar – I’m not silly enough to knowingly pay twice what I need to for the same item. That said, I like to support my local GW as I don’t want to see it close – where else can I go and hang out and talk to my hobby peeps. I buy the odd kit full price (Oz Retail) , particularly when I want something now rather than in 2 weeks, and buy all my paints and hobby supplies locally, but the bulk of army purchases are from old blighty – Maelstrom built me my Empire army and Waylands my Guard

Bretonnian Knights For The Fourth Quarter

Bretonnian Knights For The Fourth Quarter

Image Property of Games Workshop It seems we have three solid quotes coming out about the Bretonnians. Rumours are abound that the knights will see the retail shelves sometime in the last part of 2011. This is just the begining stages of the rumors for the Bretonnians but things are being spoutted by the ever accurate Harry. It is of course a god idea to keep the salt shaker close but time will only tell. Till next post Warmongers! No further details as of yet, as ony the release schedule has so far made its way out. (Although only the Lady knows how many last-minute screw ups could postpone that still further… we’ve seen it before! ) There has been talk about several plastic kits, though I am wary of that, as GW has sometimes developed plastic kits that were withdrawn at the last minute (a Dwarf character set was scrapped, and two of the concept minis – a dwarf king on oathstone and a BSB – were released in metal instead)

Breakdown: The cost of gaming

Breakdown: The cost of gaming

Greetings, I would like to start off by introducing myself, although some of you may already know me. My name is Scott, I run my own blog Bay Hammer and am currently an active war gamer and hobbyist, I currently play guard and Space marines and have been a part of the community for a little over ten years. A few weeks ago the lead editor of WH 39,999 put out a call for guest writers for this blog and so looking for a change of pace I decided to throw my hat in the ring.
