    1000 pt. Casual Tourney

Alright ladies and gents.... have a casual tourney coming up next month and I want to play a fun army that can be competitive, without uber cheese....

calling this .... Black Powder Inquisition

    Witch Hunter
    w/ Speculum - 90 pts.
    Warrior Priest
    w/ Heavy armor - 69 pts.
    x42 Halberdiers
    w/ Full command- 282 pts.
    x8 Outriders - 168 pts.
    Steam Tank - 250 pts.

This totals out to 859 pts..... leaving room for some stuff obviously.......would like some input as to what that will be.

I like the mobile gun platforms in the Stank and the OR so they are going to stay.... as is the Witch hunter build....as I know it will catch most of my opponents off guard and throw them off their game....

    What is everyone's thoughts?

Hey dude, been a while since I used my Empire but, hey, what the hell.

Do you really need the Speculum on the WH? Now, I've no idea what your mates are likely to use but from my experience most people will use a Sorcerer at 1000pts and not bother with any other character which leaves the speculum a little pointless. Why not use the points to buy your WH and WP some gear? As for left over points, more Out Riders? Maybe even a unit of archers for the WH to run around in? They're mobile enough to escort him on his way to assassinate his Quarry.

Kind of depends on the player really.... the dark elf player will use only sorcs, ogre players will use augment magic but get into combat, lizards will have a saurus general, no beastmen players in the area....lots of khorne players....the list goes on.... I had other ideas for fun themed lsts also.... just can't decide what to do.... don't want uber cheese

The Witch hunter is a nice addition to carry the speculum. You might want to skip him though in favour of a battle standard bearer & give the speculum to the warrior priest.

Why use 42 halberdiers? I'd think 39 (5* + general might be enough.

The left over points can go into more outriders or a 15-swordsmen detachment for your halberdiers. An alternative can be to upgrade the warrior priest to a arch lector (ld 9) and spend 65 points on a wizard.

    There, fixed that for ya

Anyways, I don't mind the STank in the list and don't think that it's cheese, based on the fact that the other 750pts of your army is just Empire.
I agree on dropping the Halbies down to 38 models + 2 characters for a total of 5x8 formation and exactly meeting your minimum points (if I remember their points value correctly).
I also second the BSB over the Witch Hunter. You can throw a Spellshield on the BSB if you think that you need MR. If people are going to be running CC characters, I'd get your Warpriest the Speculum and a Wardsave if you can afford them together (again, can't remember points off top of my head).

You've got about 173pts just chilling right there. My suggestion is either Demis if you can fit them in, or two more Outriders and then split the regiment in half, or add a block or two of Pistoliers, or XBowmen or Swordsmen as a detachment to your Halbies.

Thanks, I thought it looked funny but wasn't sure how to fix it.
Must just be me then, I'm not a big fan of STanks in general and at 1000pts I just can't see it.
As far as the warrior priest you could do the speculum and the seed of regen but that is as close to a ward save as you can get with 10pts.
