    Shooting at Tyrion

    Hey all!

    Quick question about the pointy eared prince.

    He is listed in the High Elf army book as a cavalry unit, but he is also on a monstrous base. So whats the deal with shooting him if he is in a unit of let's say dragon princes? Can I point 5 bolt throwers at him and pick him off? Does he get a look out sir? Or does the unit conceal him? I seem to remember something about "if it's a different base size, they get a reduced look out sir and the can be targeted."

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks a bunch!

    Yeah, so this is one those weird situations where GWs new rules have not caught up yet with their packaging. You should model him on a normal cavalry base now so that he cannot get picked off and will receive a LOS. For all of those people that have him on his 40 or 50 mil monstrous cav base just use him as a space filler for another cav model until you can re-base him.

    @Furbyballer

    Gotchya, so if he is modelled on the monster base he can be targeted is what you're saying right?

    Yeah. If he is on the monstrous cav base then he would not get a LOS and can be targeted by certain warmachines and spells. However, if you are shooting at him with bolt throwers then you cannot single him out if he is in a unit because he is a part of the unit. Bolt throwers cannot specify where they hit the unit which is where the distinction really comes into play with cannons and grudge throwers.

    That is incorrect. LOS! and targetting is done by unit type not base size. Tyrion has no negatives for being on a larger base other than more models being in btb.

    And as Gw have said on a few times to always use the base the model comes with.

    NO NO NO!
    This isn't right - the two below are correct:

    Tyrion comes on a 50mm base, he must be mounted on a 50mm base, per GW's rules about using the bases that he comes with.

    And yes, Look Out Sir! is done by model type, not base size. Tyrion is Cavalry and will get a LoS! in any regiment of Cavalry with at least 5 other models. The same is true with WoC characters on a Disc riding with Knights, and so forth. Even if Tyrion were mounted on a 40mm base and had to contend with "when bases collide", as long as he is Cavalry he gets a LoS! roll.

    Kind of nitpicking here, but this stuck out to me: you realize that you can't 'snipe' with a Bolt Thrower in the same way you can with a template weapon (like a cannon).
    Even if the model doesn't get a Look Out Sir, hits are only allocated "one each" - the controlling player allocates hits, so if I have a MonCav BSB inside a regiment of Cavalry, I'll allocate 1 hit to each Cavalry model, then a hit to my BSB, then another hit to each of my cavalry models.
    Really, the only time LoS! is important is when you're catching a cannonball or template hits. Typically cannonballs, because players can snipe with those and lob the template right through your character - the risk being that if the shot doesn't kill the character, it just stops right there (he catches it).
