1000pt Space wolves need advice

Alright so I was wondering if I should just go for the space wolves instead of using the traits. So this is my thought for a 1000 point armylist. Please comment on it.

Venerable Dreadnaut
Assault cannon, Missle launchers, extra armor
170 pt

6 Grey hunters
5 bolters, plasma gun
119

9 blood claws
2 power fist, flamer
+
1 wolf guard battle brother
frostblade, bolt pistol, frags
+
Drop pod
268 pt

6 wolf scouts
2 power weapon
+
wolf guard
power fist, frags, bolt pistol
151 pt

5 long fangs
3 missle launchers
168 pt

8 blood claws
power fist
124 pt

Total: 1000 pt
Models in army: 37

I´ve got a pretty good amount of models there for 1000 points.
But so the plan is to have the 8 man blood claws squad rush forward with the grey hunters giving coverfire along with the dread and the long fangs. The long fangs and the dread also get into position to get clear shots of any tanks. The scouts then sneak up on the other army from the back which will then also get flanked by the blood claws drop pod squad led by the Wolf guard battle brother.

So guys, you think this is gonna work or am I gonna get shot to pieces? I was wondering if I should drop one of the scouts to give the scout squad and the 8man BC squads flamers. Or should I just go for the extra attacks the scout will bring to his unit?

Alright guys gimme your opinion!

Remeber, all that follows is just my opinion, the main thing with this and any game is to enjoy it even if you loose in fact more so. loosing is nothing if you have fun doing it :)

guess you're not planning on CC with this guy, for me, i'd go with the assault cannon or change to a plasma cannon (no overheat on a dread) drop the ML in favour of a heavy flamer and walk him towards the bad guys shooting along the way

6 Grey hunters
good solid choice if they're not moving

9 blood claws
1 wolf guard battle brother
not a fan of this setup, first of the WGBL can NOT join them if they use a drop pod i'd change them to mounted in a rhino and get rid of the flamer for a meltagun

6 wolf scouts
wolf guard
again, not a fan of this, i'd go with 6 scouts, 1 Plasma Pistol (PP) & power weapon (PW), 1 with PP & close combat weapon (CCW), 1 with bolt pistol (BP) & PW, 1 with a melta gun and 2 with BP & CCW, for 134pts this is my favourite setup add a WGL if you really feel you need to

5 long fangs
seems like you forgot a missile launcher, cost should be 188pts, personally, i'd drop them alltogether, see below..

8 blood claws
slow unit, if you drop the long fangs (LF), give these guys a rhino, an additional PW and a meltagun as well. Also, if you drop the LF you can get a landspeeder tornado as well

send the 2 units of blood claws in their rhinos up, hugging cover supporting each other, walk the dread up shooting at what he can, keep the Grey Hunters back shooting at whatever, get the scouts in behined should be able to take out a tank if it's there or whatever's hidding in the bad guys deployment zone and have the tornado zooming around the table like a fly on heat shooting at whatever it can see

However, like i said at the start, just my opinion feel free to disregard any and all of what i have said i wont be too hurt :O

what are you talking about?

it says in the codex "Only the following can deploy from drop pods...Any space marine model in power or terminator armor, space marine scouts, dreadnoughts and land speeders"

he qualifies here as he is a member of the exclusive "any space marine model in power or terminator armor" ;)

But on the other hand you make many interesting suggestions. I was thinking about dropping the long fangs but I wasn´t sure what I should use to bust open tanks. Arming the scouts with a melta gun is not only a great idea but an obvious answer to my dilemma that I should have figured out myself.

It´s not that I don´t like rhinos ...oh wait yes it is ;) I really don´t like rhinos, they´re not interesting to paint or model so I´d rather stick to the drop pod ´cause I REALLY wanna make my own from scratch :ninja:

But I gotta find a way to get my other blood claws into combat ...maybe bikes? :shifty:

But yeah I´m with you on gearing the Ven.Dread differently. He´s gonna be a cool model and it would be a shame to keep him in the background.

Yeah well as you can see one of my main concerns is making this army a fun converting/painting project. I´m acually not gonna have them as SW but a successor chapter that uses the same rules but a different color scheme and a little bit less emphasis on the "wolf" thing and more on the "hunter" thing. ...But it would suck to let my awsome army get his ass kicked by children playing with undercoated 2nd ed. models they found under their older brother´s bed so I guess I gotta make it playable ;)

Thanks for the help man

Hi ;)

About the Wolf Guard Battle Leader, unfortunately he's definately not allowed to join the unit :(

http://us.games-workshop.com/members...D=4&ID=3552605

about half way down, unless he's dropping in on the party with his own retinue he's not allowed to join a unit so it's a drop pod of his own and he may or may not arrive at the same time as the unit

I get what you're saying about the Rhinos, horrible models :) but sometimes you just got to make those sacrifices inorder to get to the bad guys fast and discuss where they have gone wrong and how a power fist in the face will cure their skewed outlook on life

If you're going the bike route, which as a good space wolf or space wolf type chapter is always a good option and beats jumping around with an engine strapped to your back i'd chuck your HQ unit in there,
Make him a Wolf Priest with Healing Balms & meltabombs for 150pts
The blood claws equip one with a power first, one with a power weapon and one with a meltagun have one or two more for fodder and you're good to go costs 148 pts for 4 or 178pts for 5

yeah, only thing worse than loosing to an undercoated only army is loosing to one that's not even had that done to it :)

good luck and i hope my suggestions were helpful
