The list i will be versing includes 2x whirlwinds, 2x Land Speeders, Predator with lascannon and 2 hb, 2x 10 man marines, 1 commander with power fist. Heres my list. Comments are appreciated and repped.

HQ

Shas'el, MP, PR, TA, HWMT-97

Troops

Hammerhead, Railgun, Burst Cannons, Multi-tracker, Decoy Launchers-165

Basically Suits JSJ taking down Marines and Land Speeders. Helios Battlesuits will deep-strike(Wondering if i shud) and try to catch themselves 2 whirlwinds as well as basically anything that comes close. Fire Warriors are just hold-the-line decoy style troops that will hopefully attract a lot of fire power. Hammerhead is for AT and for thinning his troops. Thoughts??

Your HQ is excellent.

Your elites are good, but you can save some points by trimming them a little.

Squad 1. You should remove the plasma rifles and the multi-trackers, and replace them with a TA.
This will save you a fair amount of points. I understand that you need anti-MEQ, but your opponent is taking a lot of lights tanks, and you need missile pods for those.

Your next squad is good. I, personally, would replace the plasma rifle with a missile pod for taking out the light tanks, but this squad needs the plasma for your anti-meq work.

Lastly, you don't need the TL on your Team leader for that last squad. If you have the points and don't want to buy something else, then maybe give him the upgrades.


I was going to comment on the rest of your army, but it doens't need it. This is a quality list, and you have it pretty much as good as it is going to get for the opponent you are facing and for your points cost.

To be honest, looking at the comp of the opponent's army (I play Dark Angels), it looks like you'll tear him up.

Your list is made really well, and without further elaboration of the Dark Angels army comp, I think you've got this in the bag.

The whirlwinds are good and will hurt your firewarriors, but your strength lies in the Crisis suits and it looks like they won't have any problems.

Normally I'd advise more Deathrains, but against the particular list that you're facing it looks like you have all the right tools. Plasma will cut through Marines and missile pods won't have any problem with the Land Speeders. Your Hammerhead should also have an easy time of bringing down the Predator. Just be sure to keep it out of sight until you can get a shot on the Predator. Once the Pred's down, just work on taking out the Troops.

Hmmm. I've bee pondering this one quite a bit. I think, if it were me, that I'd be tempted to drop the FK and Helios Elites and concentrate on Deathrains with TAs instead, possibly with a Team Leader with a HWTL. This should give you enough firepower to take down the Landspeeders and ought to give you a good crack at the Predator. Granted you'll only get glancing hits with MPs, but if you get enough of them ... ... ...

I'd drop the Railhead and take an Ionhead instead and this would be my main anti-marine weapon. The range of the FWs pulse rifles (deploy them well back and use that wonderful 30"!) should also allow you to thin the ranks of advancing Marines.

With all of the above points saved (there must be quite a few) I'd then take 2 HQs with TL FBs (I can never remeber the name for these, is it Sunforge or something??) most probably with TAs.

I think the main difficulty I have with the majority of your current XV8 configs is that they're sort of jacks of all trades, etc and I much prefer specialised variants. Utilising the single TL weapon means you don't need a MT and if you take a TA instead you're pretty much guaranteed the hit you need.

The other thing is, without knowing the scenario, you might find yourself hampered by the absence of FA. With all of the points saved you might be able to squeeze in a Piranha with FB which will not only give you a fast vehicle but another AT asset.

I guess that sort of wraps up my thoughts.

Hey. Thanks for all your input. Its my view that i have definately have enough anti land speeder firepower so i'm not going to be adding any more deathrains. Any comments b4 my match 2mrw?

Deathrains aren't just good against Landspeeders. What they give you is almost guaranteed 2 hits out to 36". And if you get enough hits the slightly lesser AP becomes less important. That's why I like them so much.

Ther than that, good luck - and let us know how you got on, what went right (and wrong) and what lessons you learned - all for the greater good, obviously!
