Hi, I haven't posted much, but I was looking for advice on my 1500 point list...

Farseer, Doom, Fortune, Spirit Stones, Runes of Witnessing
135 Points

10 Guardians, Warlock (Conceal), Singing Spear, Starcannon
148 Points

10 Guardians, Warlock (Conceal), Singing Spear, Starcannon
148 Points

20 Guardians, Warlock (Conceal), Singing Spear, Starcannon
218 Points

10 Storm Guardians, Warlock (Enhance), 2 Fusion Guns
132 Points

5 Pathfinders
120 Points

5 Pathfinders
120 Points

5 Wraithguard, Warlock (Conceal/Enhance), Singing Spear
218 Points

1 Waveserpent, Shuirken Cannon, Twin-Linked Shuriken Cannons, Spirit Stones
120 Points

1 Wraihlord, Brightlance, 2 Flamers, Wraithblade
140 Points

1499 Points

This list hasn't seen combat yet, but I was thinking of fortuning the 20-man guardian squad and using it as a distraction unit. and take the storm guardians as a counter-charge unit, with Av capabilities

My only real concerns are drop-pod armies and mech lists, as I'm not sure how much av I can get out of it....

Thanks ^^

one problem with the list

your warlock with the wraithguard can only take 1 power. warlocks dont get more than 1.

Yeah, Warlocks can only have one power each. Unless you mean that sometimes it has conceal and sometimes it has enhance.

With regard to the rest of the list... I have one huge complaint. Guardians! Too many Guardians! 1 squad of them is too many! Guardians are useless in every aspect of what they are supposed to do in my experience. So get some Dire Avengers in there! Also, there are no specialist fighters or anything so you might have trouble against certain enemies - get some other Aspect Warriors in there as well.

Unless, of course, you are including all the Guardians for the purposes of what I have just noticed is a 'fluffy Ulthwe' list.... in which case I can understand why all the Guardians but the list won't be very competitive.

This should really be in the Eldar Army Lists section.

Against what DiW said, I think guardians are a good choice for your list. Guardians don't work at all in small numbers, but with that many, you've got a strength in numbers, which tends to work quite well with anything.

Shut up! You're supposed to hate Guardians too!

Against what DT said, Guardians are never a good choice. Virtually everything can pierce their armour and they need to get within 12" to be of any use at all. There really is nothing good about them.

And yes, this should really be in the Army Lists section.

I'm pretty sure that I saw the words 'fluffy' and 'Ulthwé' somewhere, so I'm going to say that guardians are definitely a good choice. I'd actually suggest that you get some more anti-armor firepower in there, mostly by dropping a pathfinder squad or both and adding in a second wraithlord and possibly a wave serpent for your storm guardians. This also will help you out of you find yourself up against a serious gunline, giving you a little more stayting power and mobility.

Fluff can only take you so far. Then you have to look into how competitive the army list is. As I've said before, I think there are FAR too many Guardians for the list to be very competitive. But maybe I just have a personal vendetta against Guardians :p

I agree that you definetely need some more anti-vehicle firepower in there, maybe with a Wraithlord but possibly with War Walkers or something similar.

Ok, Thanks for the advice^^

I was orginally planning on using a 20-man squad as a distraction squad, casting fortune on them, and using them as essentially a movie 4+ cover save. with that though, I needed to take some wort of long-range support, or hide a cc squad behind them. I don't have harliquins, but I was considering taking a 2-3 warwalker squad to guide, and a second wraithlord, but that would take too much dependencey on the wraithlords in cc with warp spiders as light av.

I have alot of guardians, and I was just looking for an excuse to use them, I can take a wraithguard troop choice, but I don't have dire avengers yet. I've tried proxying them, but the lack of a heavy weapon makes the squad less versitile to me.

But this is the opinon of a casual player...

I'm thinking of adding banshees and spiders, and dropping the Storm guardians and the 2 ten-man squads to maybe squeeze another wraithguard unit

Maybe?

Well I can at least see now why you are using the Guardians if you really do have so many, maybe you can make something good out of them :)

War Walkers are very good and very cheap, if you're going to have a squad of 3 I would go for one with dual Scatter Lasers for anti-infantry, one with dual Brightlances for anti-vehicle, and one with dual EMLs for anti-everything.

If you want heavy weapons, go for Dark Reapers. In fact, I'd put a squad of Reapers in there anyway. The weapons are enough to take out GEQs on a 2 and MEQs on a 3 and they have AP3 so they can ignore most armour saves, and they have a 48" range. On top of that, the Exarch can have the tempest launcher and Fast Shot for extra firepower. The only problem is that their Strength is really too low to take out most vehicles, so leave the anti-vehicle part to things with Brightlances and Missile Launchers or similar.

I personally dislike Warp Spiders and really can't see much attraction to them other than their high Movement (which has a tendency to be quite self-destructive) and the Exarch Spinneret Rifle. I would definetely put a unit of Banshees in there but instead of the Spiders I would put a unit of Striking Scorpions or, if you want Fast Attack, Vypers (especially as Vypers would fit in with the Ulthwe theme).

You might want to get another Wraithguard unit but I can't see any reason why you should need to get rid of the two ten-man squads. If you get rid of one of the 10-man squads and the Storm Guardians you should have more than enough room for a Wraithguard unit (looking at the points cost for your other one, anyway).

Since you said Fluffy I think i need to stretch my very small eldar muscle. Isn't Mugan Ra home boy with Ulthwe. If not him then Dark Reapers. I have a tingling in the back of my head the says that Ulthwe should take Dark Reapers. If i'm wrong i'd like to know.

For the List, hmm... Don't have many comments as i don't have an army, just the book. But i'd ditch the Wraithguard unless you already have them. I can't see how such a small squad could be good for anything really. I just run away from them when i play them. Also the Pathfinders could be replaced with a tank or something.

At any rate thats just my two cents.

Yes, Maugan Ra is the (?) Ulthwe Phoenix Lord as far as I know, so Dark Reapers would be perfectly acceptable and even compulsory in a way for the fluff side of it.

Just from what I've heard, it's often better, with the amount of 4+ cover available, to use scatter lasers instead of starcannons. I would switch up your guardian platforms to scatter lasers. Also, your wave serpent will likely not be stationary too often, so I wouldn't waste the points on upgrading the shuriken catapults to a cannon, as it will likely never be fired, unless you use the extra points you got from downgrading the starcannons to scatter lasers to upgrade the wave serpents TL shuriken cannons to TL EML's, then you can move and fire the cannon and plasma missiles. The EML's also give you more av.

Wow lots of guardian hate :) I play mech Ulthwe' and generally don't have a single aspect in my army until 2k or more. Keep in mind I play mech but my thoughts would be to drop the 5 man wraithguard (these seem to be for AT) turn either one of the defender units to stormies or switch out a ranger unit for some stormies (make both stormie squads 2 fusion warlock with spear then give either destructor enhance or embolden). with the extra points you have get a second waveserpent and stick both storm units in one. You now have two units that can do some AT hunting and points left over. Some vypers or fireprisms for some mobile firepower would be a good idea also, if you really want to stick to the fluff a battery of D-cannons can suprise people but don't expect them to last long.

Maugan Ra is actually originally from craftworld Altansar which was pulled into the eye of terror shortly after the fall, he went into the Eye of terror during the 13th black crusade and managed to guide his craftworld back out. But most eldar think that they are tainted in some way considering they had been in the eye for 10,000 years or so.

/\ What he said.
Ulthwé are known primarily for their uniquely effective citizen militia (read 'guardians') and their psykers (read Farseer/Warlocks). They are also known for a distinct lack of aspect warriors.
Storm guardians in a wave serpent is actually a respectable unit. They can have a warlock with destructor, and potentially launch three flamer templates on disembarking. A warlock with enhance could make them into a decent CC unit, and a seer council backing them up would help. That's just how I ran my mech Ulthwé an edition or two ago.

nakaruru, I'm talking old fluff. I know about the new codex and I'm not sure that is how is was before. I see though what your saying. Mugan Ra is technique now affiliated with that new craft world. I'm talking 3rd ed stuff (at lest thats when i think i saw it first). The long and the short of my coment is that Ulthwe says 4 big things to me. Farseers, crazy large seer councils, Guardians and Dark Reapers.

On a side note I just found why Ulthwe is associated with Mugan Ra. During the 13th Black Crusade Mugan Ra came to the aid of Ulthwe.

Yeah, Ulthwe knew some serious stuff was going down when Maugen Ra turned up with a retinue of Dark Reapers through the Webway. Whilst the Crusade was at its peak, the Eye of Terror was open large enough to let Maugen Ra enter and retrieve his Craftworld. There's something cool about him having the balls to go into Hell itself to retrieve his lost comrades. I think that's why I like him so much.

The fluff is all good, but you need the EoT codex and they're not easy to get hold of unless you download them...
