Hi,

New player to IG, and fairly inexperienced on the whole at 40K. Read around the topics, and come up with this 1500 pt list. Comments and criticisms welcome.

I'm anticipating some criticism of the Punisher, simply because I have yet to see it in anyone else's list at all. Quite why I have no idea- having played a little with Tau, who gear a huge amount of their strategy around putting out far less S5 that the Punisher licks out, it looks ideal. Do people think a trio of AC Scout Sentinels +/- Marbo would be a better investment? Or do I perhaps have too much anti-horde and not enough anti-tank?

An alternative

As an alternative, how about this? Sacrifices the Punisher for more infantry and one of the Hellhounds for Sentinels and Marbo. Plan would be to blob the two infantry platoons, one as a fairly static firebase while the other advances behind armour.

Here is probably why you never see a punisher. Using

20 shots sounds great, but then thats only a 24 inch range. Out of those 20 shots, only 10 will actually hit (Guard BS3 FTL). Depending on the toughness of the opponent you will cause 6-8 wounds against infantry and 1-3 wounds against MCs. On top of that every opponent will get an armor save.

You can increase the effectiveness by putting on Heavy Bolters and/or Throwing in Pask, but then this tank has the same price-tag as a landraider and not nearly as effective. If you want anti-horde get something cheap like hellhounds or griffons. Much better bang for you buck.


Personally I like the second list over the first. Though I'd be wary of putting plasma on the CCS without a medic.

And in the end, you won't kill any more infantry (on average) than a vanilla Russ would, at a higher points cost and without the range or the anti-tank/anti-infantry versatility that the Russ offers.
