Heya.

Going along with the thread I started in the general Chaos section, here is my preliminary army list with Ahriman leading it. Please give your input on what you would say that it lack and how it could be made stronger, as I suppose Ahriman in himself is sort of a handicap against certain opponents. Going for a strong infantry theme, by the way.

HQ

Ahriman of the Thousand Sons
250 points.

ELITES

6 Chaos Terminators
-chainfist/heavy flamer
-4 combi-plasmas and 1 combi-melta
225 points.

TROOPS

10 Chaos Space Marines
-icon of chaos glory
-aspiring champion with power fist
-2 flamers
-rhino transport
245 points.

10 Chaos Space Marines
-icon of chaos glory
-aspiring champion with power fist
-2 meltaguns
-rhino transport
255 points.

8+1 Thousand Sons Chaos Space Marines
-aspiring sorceror with wind of chaos, melta bombs and personal icon
-rhino transport
319 points.

7+1 Thousand Sons Chaos Space Marines
-aspiring sorceror with doom bolt
-231 points.

HEAVY SUPPORT

3 Obliterators, split into 3 squads of 1
225 points.

Army points total 1750/1750 points.

Ahriman is supposed to tag along with the smaller of the Thousand Sons units, not joining them but hanging around nearby. I don't want to waste either of their potentials because the other is stuck on shooting something else. I omitted melta bombs from the aspiring sorceror as Ahriman should be able to fry any close-combatty vehicle or big gribbly before they can reach their position.

Usually I bring two squads of flamer toting Marines but I figure that the wind of chaos should perform a similar roll, if not even more versatile.

The Terminators will be brought in where they are needed the most while the Obliterators fan out across the field and start doing their thing.

So, how does it look?

Thank you for your input!

awww, no IoT for the space marines?! RoAcHie likes single god chaos armies (seriously tempted by nurgle right now).

Anyways, looks like a solid enuff army, plenty to deal with different threat and plenty of targets, also a bit of mobility in there. the sorta army i am generally comfortable in fielding, although i never use special characters except at apocalypse scale, but that is more of a preference than a tactical thing

Unfortunately, I find the icon of Tzeentch to be pretty much terrible on regular Marine squads. Such an amount of points for an invulnerable save and loss of bravery? Anyway, the story behind the force is pretty much that Ahriman has swooped in and taken control of the remnants of a Black Legion warband. He needs them to help him gather more knowledge and stuff.

However, I have thought of making some changes. Here they are:

-switch the meltaguns in the Marine squad to a pair of flamers.
-drop the rhino borne Thousand Sons squad.

+add a summoned Greater Daemon.
+add a squad of 8 Chosen, with the following entry.
8 Chosen
-icon of chaos glory
-aspiring champion with powerfist
-aspiring champion ("naked")
-3 meltaguns
229 points.

It will end at 1750 points in total.

Any input on how it would either improve or worsen the overall efficiency? Too much points in HQ perhaps?

Okay, sorry for bumping my own thread, but I have updated the list a handsome bit.

HQ

Ahriman of the Thousand Sons
250 points.

ELITES

5 Chaos Terminators
-chainfist/heavy flamer
-3 combi-plasmas and 1 combi-melta
190 points.

TROOPS

10 Chaos Space Marines
-icon of chaos glory
-aspiring champion with power fist
-2 flamers
-rhino transport
245 points.

10 Chaos Space Marines
-icon of chaos glory
-aspiring champion with power fist
-2 flamers
-rhino transport
245 points.

7+1 Thousand Sons Chaos Space Marines
-aspiring sorceror with doom bolt
231 points.

17 Chaos Cultists (Kroot Carnivores)
-cult champion (shaper) with eviscerator
182 points.

FAST ATTACK

16 Chaos Cultists (Kroot Hound Pack)
-9 cultists with hellish vigour (hyperactive nymune organ adaptation)
-cult champion with eviscerator and hellish vigour
-6 cultists (kroot hounds)
182 points.

HEAVY SUPPORT

3 Obliterators split into 3 squads of 1
225 points.

Army points total 1750/1750 points.

The Kroot will add some considerable numbers to the list, infiltrating and carrying a chain fist equivalent. The Hound Pack also has fleet.

And, as we all know, having some form of Cultists in a Chaos Space Marines force is quite fluffy. ;)
