Good afternoon all!

Getting back to the Crons after a long distraction with Chaos (haven't yet played Necrons in 5th Ed).

As a result have been doing some reading on the forum here on new army ideas and came up with the following list. Constructive criticism on making the list as competitive and fun as possible would be much appreciated!

List with tactics/strategy to follow:

"Cronzilla" Hybrid List (~1850 pts)

HQ: 1 Destroyer Lord, Res Orb, Gaze of Flame
HQ: 1 Destroyer Lord, Res Orb, Gaze of Flame

ELITES: 10 Flayed Ones
ELITES: 10 Flayed Ones

FA: 3 Destroyers
FA: 3 Destroyers
FA: 10 Scarabs

TROOPS: 10 Warriors
TROOPS: 10 Warriors

HVY: 3 Tomb Spyders (all CC)
HVY: 3 Tomb Spyders (all CC)

Phase Out: 12

The general strategy will be to use a Hammer & Anvil approach where the Anvil will be made up of the Spyders and Warriors. These guys will advance (run as necessary) to close with the enemy. Warriors will use cover from Spyders, and Spyders will "artifice" additional ablative Scarab wounds to weather nasty shooting/prepare for getting to grips.

The Hammer will be made of the Destroyers, Lords, and Flayed Ones. Much of the threat here will be focused in the opponents backfield/flanks, forcing them to fight on 2+ fronts, diluting their fire and forcing uncomfortable target priority decisions.

Flayed Ones will Infiltrate/DS as needed. Destroyers and Lords will boost to flanks and opponents Deployment zone. Lords will support Destroyers/Flayed Ones with Res Orb/Gaze of Flame as well as shooting and VERY selective HTH/unit joining if pressed. Flayed Ones will charge/menace rearward units with nasty guns and poor CC ability as well as regular Rank and File troops. Destroyers will shoot the bejeazus out of everything else caught in the middle.

Scarabs will be used as a bit of a wildcard to slow/herd potential threats. They could skitter with the Hammer or boost with the Anvil, depending on the Opponent.

My Main Opponents:

Eldar: Mechanized Shooty & Assaulty (Ugh!)
Tyranids: Hybrid Nidzilla List with 5-6 MC's and a bunch of Warriors (Ugh!)
Tau: Mechanized & Gunline
Chaos Space Marines (mostly Nurgly and footslogger/reserve variety)

Some of my main concerns with the list (due to lack of 5th ED experience) lies in the performance of the Flayed Ones. Have read alot about Sweeping Advance issues with Crons now and am wondering if they will end up being ineffective in their role due to lack of staying/distracting power if easily swept.
Also concerned with Rear/flank attacks on the Hammer from Jetbikes or the like - as if something in the fastly maneuverable category with decent guns gets back there (I am looking at YOU Eldar!!) it could quickly tear apart that side of the army strategy.

Any thoughts you may all collectively have would be much appreciated. And I thank you for all your posts that already got me this far!

Cheers!

Thanks for the thoughts, Alzer!

Refined list with more Cronzilla goodness:

"Cronzilla" Hybrid List (~1850 pts)

HQ: 1 Destroyer Lord, Res Orb, Gaze of Flame
HQ: 1 Deceiver

ELITES: 8 Flayed Ones
ELITES: 7 Flayed Ones

FA: 3 Destroyers
FA: 3 Destroyers
FA: 10 Scarabs

TROOPS: 10 Warriors
TROOPS: 10 Warriors

HVY: 3 Tomb Spyders (all CC)
HVY: 3 Tomb Spyders (all CC)

Phase Out: 10

Changes in tactics would see the Deceiver joining/spearheading the Anvil portion of the list, and the Lord hanging out with both Destroyer units - possibly reducing the flexibility of the Hammer as the backfield and flank penetration will need to happen in a more concentrated area for proper WBB unit/res orb support.
However it does make the Anvil part of the list MUCH nastier. And having a more concentrated Hammer should allow more of an overwhelming force aimed at a smaller portion of the opponent's line (allowing for a greater return with more concentrated fire/CC assaults working in tandem).

And gotta admit - using Deceive to force my Nid opponents to make Morale & pinning checks with Synapse creatures is a VERY tasty prospect! Tempts one to add a small support unit of Pariahs to the Deceiver at 2K + points...

Ideas on the revised list/tactics?
Thanks again for any thoughts!

This list is no good in 5th. It has far too few troop choices. In a list this size an MEQ army should be taking a minimum of 4 troops for your 66% chance of rolling an objective mission. The ideal set up for a Scarab Lord would be lightning field, warscythe and destroyer body. If you expect this list to be competitive, then you should seriously consider some more Warriors.
