Hey everyone, I've lurked this board for army list ideas but I decided to post up what I have so far and let you guys chew it to pieces :) I wanted a daemonhunters army list for fluff purposes, I mostly like painting/building but I figure it might as well be playable too. I wanted to have it playable at every point cost as I work my way up, so I don't have to spend a whole lot to get some games in! Let me know what you think!


500 Points
HQ (250 )
Grey Knight Brother-Captain, Meltabombs, 4 Assault Terminator Retinue

Troops (248 )
5 Stormtroopers w. Meltagun, Flamer
Rhino Transport w. Smoke, Armor, Searchlights

5 Stormtroopers w. Meltagun, Flamer
Rhino Transport w. Smoke, Armor, Searchlights


750 Points
Add in a Land Raider Heavy Support, either full of terminators or just for shooting.


1000 Points
For each of the Troops, replace 1 Flamer and 1 Stormtrooper with
Meltagun Stormtrooper
Veteran Stormtrooper w. Combiflamer, Chainsword
Bringing each Troops choice to 150 Points (300 total).

Elites (250 )
Ordo Malleus Inquisitor in Powered Armour with Psycannon and Targeter
2 Veteran Imperial Guard Henchmen with Plasma Guns
2 Mystic Henchment with Powered Armour, Hellguns, and Krak Grenades
Rhino Transport w. Smoke, Armour, Searchlights




That's as far as I've gotten so far. for the last 500 I'm thinking Inducted Imperial Guard & a Leman Russ, or three Stormtrooper squads w. no vets/transports to fill up the Rhinos and a Land Raider.

Either way, the stuff I have so far is:
1 Land Raider
2 Rhinos
1 2nd Edition Rhino (tiny, misshapen ex-Chaos thing)
5 Assault Terminators
10 Converted Imperial Guard troopers (2 w. Flamers)


How I would play this list of lists:
Rhino transports move up, inquisitor provides fire support with land raider, pop transports, then drop terminators on them to wipe up.


Please let me know what you think!

Sorry, but it is illegal for terminators to carry meltabombs. Also, with the points I've shaved off the rest of your army, you may be able to get an Incinerator or maybe even 2 for your GKT's. That's the best way to equip them if you put them in a LR.

One of the easiest mistakes made by new players is to over-equip your Inq+retinue.

Go like this for a decent firebase:

Inquisitor - psycannon (he doesn't need a targeter as the warriors come with them)
3x Warriors - 3x plasmas
2x Mystics
Rhino - EA, smokes
180pts

Way too much wargear. Keep them cheap:

5x IST's - 2x meltas, rhino, EA, smokes - 128
5x IST's - 2x meltas, rhino, EA, smokes - 128

The reason I normally give my IST's melta is because DH doesn't normally have great AT. If you want to use the flamers you have then go 2x meltas in 1 squad and 2x flamers in the 2nd. As any experienced player will tell you, it is never a good idea to mix-n-match special weapons. Better to leave them specialized for a purpose.

Give your LR Extra Armor.


It's a decent start for your army. Keep at it.

Posting a revised list in... asap.

I gave the Inquisitor and his Henchpeople powered armour so that the average armour in the squad was the carapace, giving the whole squad a better saving throw. Not worth the investment?

OK, Here's my current build, I like this one quite a bit because it makes the math really easy :D 128*5 + 245 + 115 -> 1000.

The way I look at it is this....the Inq and his retinue are sacrificial units (just like any guardsmen). If they die, no big deal. At least they took some of the heat away from my scoring IST's or my GKT's. But if you stick them in cover or a rhino, most likely the opponent will try to take down your other killy units instead. Besides, in Kill Point games, you'd want your Inq to die before his retinue. This way you only give out 1 KP instead of 2.

If you have spare points and nothing to spend it on, then go ahead and get the Power armor. Me, I'd rather get 2x mystics for some Deepstriking defense or 1x sage to increase your Inq to BS 5 or to upgrade your dread's MM to TL-lascannons.

By the ways, the only henchmen that can buy wargear (i.e. power armor) are acolytes.

Any tips/support? I think this is a pretty sweet setup, maybe a little too infantry heavy but it has to be to get Leman Russes online! The plan is to get the IG Platoon Commands into the Rhinos, unless that's mad dumb; I may just switch out the autocannons for 2 more flamers (or 2 gren launchers?)

The idea is to have a Plasma/Leman gunline with skirmisher support.
