We all know that it is annoying when someone asks "How much does an infantry platoon or a Leman Russ cost, and what are their abilities?" and everyone answers "How about you buy a codex?" Well, that is one thing, but what I am asking for is a little different. I'm wondering what are the armament, options, and points cost (in marines- i.e. 150pts = 10 marines) of the various Imperial Aircraft, and which ones you consider to be the most effective. I'm planning on converting an aircraft with a model plane and a veritable plethora of bitz, but quite frankly I don't want to drop 300+ dollars on forgeworld models and books. Any input is appreciated.

I would say the marauder destroyer, it supports a sick amount of firepower, 3 twin linked autocannons, twin linked assault cannons, a few bombs and a few hellstrike missiles and twin linked heavy bolters.

Thats just obscene for the points you pay.
the probs with forge world stuff is that you need your opponents permission to us it and there is only three kinds of people who will say yes to this

1. dumb ones
2. people with an utmost desire to lose or incredibly lucky dice
3. someone with a titan.

id buy it put it together do a great paint job and put it on a display piece and only use it in huge games
Actually, the plan is that myself and a few other friends in my gaming circle were all going to put together a non-superheavy aircraft of some sort, and only use them when everyone uses them. In this way, the game is still somewhat balanced. Also, while aircraft are good they are not overwhelmingly dominant or invincible like titans. Not to mention whether or not say, a Thunderbolt is worth 12 marines is questionable considering it is av10 and packs only 2TL autocannons and 1TL lascannon. The Thunderbolt is really the only craft I know anything about, but I've heard the Vulture is good- anyone like Thunderbolts, Lightnings, or Vultures?
Ok, lets get something straight.

Normal FW aircraft do NOT unbalance the game. Most aircraft are highly fragile and only require one good hit to come crashing down to the table. Couple that fact with the fact that most Aircraft are insanely expensive unless they are Imperial Aircraft and Impierial Aricraft come with the downside of having the same exact BS as the rest of the army.

Super Heavies, on the other hand, are fairly unbalaced. Especially against armies that have little or no Anti Tank firepower in the first place like Orks or Grey Knights or Dark Eldar. Super Heavies are definitely something that your opponent should have warning about.

Yeah, I don't think regular flyers are that unbalancing (and most are no that expensive). Essentially they allow the person fielding them to get a "free hit" against targets. Yeah, odds are you won't be able to take it down unless you throw a lot of shots at it, but it probably won't be doing an inordnant amount of damage either.

To true. Anyway a lightning strike variant will probally get the job done for you ( i wish i could say something about the vultures but i dont have those books :( ) Its pretty cheap at 170 points and its pretty good versus hard targets that may give you trouble; tanks or big bugs. Plus it has the rockets gota love those  The regular lightning is also good cheaper too. Nice and balanced it be. The big thing to rember is that you add 12inches when fireing up at a flyer. Make sure you keep a nice buffer zone and nothing will ever touch you ( don't need av 14 all around if your in range and they aint )
