Tanks in most space marine armies come from the chapter armory, barring most transports that is.
Techmarines come from the chapter armoury.

My read on things is that the chapter armoury loans tech personel and tanks out to the battle companies as needed.

So, when you have a guy on a pintle mounted stormbolter attached to a predator, is he armoury personel, as the shoulderpad on LANDRAIDER C SPRUE suggest?

If so, does he follow techmarine color scheme, why or why not?

Where can I learn more about the "tech" industry in 40k?

He is a part of the Chapter Armoury but since he is not trained by the priests on Mars he does not get to wear the red armour, he wears standard Chapter colours. Actually, there's a huge mistake in that mini that contradicts the fluff completely.
The Insignium Astartes says that only the Tech priests and Techmarines of the Machine Cult on Mars may wear the iron skull badge. However, the badge is on the shoulder plate of the marine on the mini.

oh well, to late for me i guess. the red armour is a nice contrast to the green tank, and since their already painted...

Actually, i went and bought 4 paints JUST for my tchmarines armour coat color, so i feel obligated to use those 4 paints whenever possible.

Thanks for clearing it up anyway, i guess if GW can't get the fluff right all he time, hen i can take the occasional liberty too.

You could always just say that a techmarine has taken charge of the vehicle, it could happen, especially if there are no other crew about to man it.

As for "armoury personnel" I would think that the Techmarines are the only Space Marines in the armoury, the rest being servitors or human tech-adepts and serfs. The tanks and so forth would probably be crewed by either specialist crews from the company the vehicle is attached to, or in an emergency, battle-brothers from the Company's Tactical/Assault/Devastator squads - look at Land Speeders and Bikes - in a battle company they are crewed by members of the company's assault squads, so why couldn't a Predator be crewed by members of a Devastator Squad?

Actually, as it got me interested, I had a look at Codex Ultramarines, where on the 'Eavy Metal page for the Whirlwind it says:

All Space Marines are able to act as crew for the vehicles maintained it each chapter's armoury. It is normally the Tactical squads which provide the vehicle crews. When fighting in this role they replace their normal tactical markings with crew badges, but otherwise they regain their company colours and Chapter insignia as normal.
They also show marines in the old Razorback and Whirlwind wearing the Vehicles identification number on their shoulder pad, "XI" for example, being the 11th vehicle attached to the second company - the number is also on the hull of the whirlwind.

Ahh... I love Codex Ultramarines, and a good opportunity to wax lyrical about Space Marines of course. :)

Absolutely. Maybe an apprenticed Techmarine or something like that (been to Mars and all, but still apprenticed under an older Techmarine).
