Black Templar Project Log

Hi there,

First of all:

For all of you who knew about my other project log called "Almberg: This is my world!", I deleted it. I felt it was too unorganized and didn't really have a goal to work for. First I posted some Eldar and then it changed to Templars and blablabla. Anyways I started this pure Black Templar project log to make it easier for me and for you to follow it. Hope you understand. ;)

So I will write down an armylist right now as I speak and that will be my goal. I'm not going for a good army and I won't even bother to count the points, I'll just write down what I want and what weapons they will have. :p I just want a cool collection of Black Templar because they look so **** good! I will probably add more stuff with time but this is a start!

HQ

High Marshal Helbrecht

Emperor's Champion

Chaplain in terminator armor

Elites

5 Assault Terminators

5 Assault Terminators
Thunder hammers and storm shields

Dreadnought
Twinlinked lascannon and missile launcher

5 Sword Brethren

Troops

10 Initiates and 10 Neophytes
Close combat equipment for everyone, power fist, meltagun

3 Attack Bikes

2 Land Raider Crusaders

Well as you can see I want a little of everything. Just want a huge great looking army standing in my display case. And if I want to play with them I'll just pick out some units and play with them. Sounds great in my ears. As I said I will probably add more with time as I progress and this project will take a A LOOOONG time. Probaby it will never end. I will probably get thired of it and take breaks and paint other things, (my friend's Orks for example).

I have 2 terminators done as some of you might have seen here in the forums and I'm working on a land speeder at the moment.

Here is one of 20 initiates so far:

I know a lot of you have seen it before but it is for everyone that haven't. Also, this is with different lightning.

I hope you all will enjoy my little project. I hope I will too...

I know i will.

one thing before you take three land speeders all with that set up mate, try a game using the multi melta / heavy flamer combo, it is a pure filth tank popper with good anti infantry capablility

I visited GW yesterday and bought some stuff including the box with 4 Chapter Masters. I think they look great and they will look even better with a Black Templar color scheme on them. I converted one of them today. Very simple conversion but I think he turned out great and I can't wait to paint him. I might add something else to him but I'm not sure yet. Any suggestions?

I should be working on my land speeder but these guys are just too cool.

Any comments are welcome!

Awww... I kind of liked the variety! But yes, it does make more sense to have specific project logs - easier to keep track of things.

Seeing as I was enjoying that thread, I may as well jump ship to this one. I'm already liking what I see! Very nice conversion - it may be simple, but it works.
So I've started to paint the guy with the axe. I'm pretty happy with him. The colors could be blended better when I look at the photo but the mini isn't this big in real life. I'll take some pictures from a distance when he is 100% and you'll understand. (I hope!) Right now I'm having trouble choosing what colors I should use for some parts to make him pop. I think some food will solve that problem.

Cya until next time!

Looking good so far. The cream loincloth has a great strong look to it. As for making parts pop, the usual colour with BT for this purpose is red. A decent red will help break up the black, along with some white and it'll make him look great.

Kuffy
The cloth bit is looking very good - the model is off to a great start. Like Kuffy said, red and white are the usual colors to brighten up the Templars.
I assume you are going to make this guy into a Marshall? If so consider using plenty of gold as well as the whites and reds, just think of Helbrecht. Personally I wish I have waited to paint the masters of the chapter, might even go back and buy them again and repaint them and sell my ones on ebay :)
Actually I'm not thinking of making him into something. I just bought them cause they look cool and paint them for fun. :) I think I know how I'll paint him now though and he should turn out pretty nice.

Thanks for the comments guys! Appreciate it. :)
Hi there,

I spent some time painting today.

I have some troubles with choosing colors for some parts. The wing on his left shoulder that is fully painted except the thing above it. Red maybe?
And the ropes on his chest.. First I was going for the casual rope look but that will not make a good contrast to the chest eagle. Hmm.. maybe if I mix desert yellow with bone.

Please share your thoughts with me. Comments are also very welcome. :)

For the shoulder pad I think continuing the white would be fine. It's still part of the wing so you should probably paint it the same. For the ropes I'd go with a yellow color, but something pale. I'm not positive what desert yellow looks like but that sounds about right.

Nice work on the blue gem.
white for the rest of the wing. I might have been inclined to do the rope a nice dark red/maroon which will contrast with the white chest eagle, I can't see a creamy looking rope contrasting at all with a white chest eagle
i have too agree about the military cord on the chest but instead of deep red id say a lighter red. Something along the lines of blood red. Also i would even say using red for the top of the wing on the shoulder. Sure the top is still part of the wing, however i think it would look a lil...."bleh" just being one color. Not to mention it would match with the military cord. Again though it is all up to you of course.

The red cord is a good idea, it'll stand out from the bone background and add a dash of colour to the mini. I do not think however edging the top of the wing in red would look that good, I would make it either gold or bone once more. He is looking really good though dude!

Kuffy
Really like your conversion and wip on the paint job. I think you are capturing the Templars 'feel' very well. Doing the gem blue really works too as it pops nicely without being o.t.t.

I'd go red on the cords. A nice strong one and gold for the wing top.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

I haven't been painting as much as I wanted to.. don't know why really, I just don't paint.

Here is a small update though. I'm not sure if the ropes are to dark. I think it's a nice strong red but there is something that is bugging me. And the banner thing on his right leg.. Does anyone know a short word that is very "Black Templish" that I can fit in there? :p

Any comments welcome! I'll get back to painting soon so cya until then.

Regarding the banner - I saw the word 'Zeal' come up in another Black Templars thread. It's short, at least!

I think I agree with you on the red. It's a decent colour at the moment but it does seem a little dull. Maybe it just need a very fine highlight a few shades brighter?
I think "suck" is a good enough one. *look at Dee* :p

Kidding. A name would work probably better, I'd save terms like "zeal" for banners and such. I like the red rope, turned out well.

Kuffy
Yea, name on that shin pad as others have said.

I think the red cord needs just the most carefully painted highlights on each of the twists in it. It will make them look a bit more 3D. I'd go orangy highlights as opposed to pinky.

Hope thats helpful.
