I think they're worth it if you're going to be getting shot. They give you an extra handful of attacks, plus they make Zeal a lot nicer. If you're planning on having to footslog a bit, the extra 3 inches of movement will pay off nicely. If you're just going to be exposed to fire for a single turn before you charge, you can either use it to make it harder to run away from the charge, or to potentially hold them off. Between the bonus movement and the crusader seals, if your opponent shoots you, you will consolidate into them. As such, they won't get the charge. This is only really an issue against pistol or assault weapon troops however.
