I just got the Chaos dex, and I'm looking for help with my first 1k points army list for my legion Choco Bloc. The basic plan is to get some raptors into the enemy with an icon and summon some daemons to kick some non-Chaotic ass. Any idea how to elaborate on this with a list?

Well nice plan. Its difficult to help you just based on what you've said so could you leys us know a few things like: What units do you have or non at all, and what sort of list do you want, fast moving, CC based, long ranged fire power or a mixture, any fluff prefences, any hated units that you don't want to use and any prefences on which god or undiveded. Please could you tell us a bit more and I'd be glad to cotinue helping you out,

Oh sorry about that. Well It's gonna be Chaos Undivided. My previous army was Nids, so I want this one to be shooty based, but still backed up by some solid combat units. I don't have any units currently, just the codex. Anything else you need to know?

if you want them deepstriking in the midst of the enemy, then they need to be prepared for close quarter bloody action.

Oh wait, that's what marines do. Awesome.

Terminators, even simple naked ones with 1 fist a squad will make mincemeat out of most infantry in CC. Most. NOT all.

They can further be given combi weapons for when they need to shoot the crap out of stuff.

Bear in mind, deepstrike comboes better with shooting units rather than CC units. This is because, shooting units get the initiative, as they can arrive guns ablazing, whereas assault units, have to set up their starting blocks and wait for the pistol to go.

Deamons .. will help only to give a bit of meat to the whole situation. They're pretty poor apart from that.

Greater daemons should be used too. Just remmeber to try and pick the most naked champ available.

Hi

Don't worry about it, Well first you need to decide on HQ,

HQ
A commonly used HQ is a deamon prince with MoS, lash of submission and wings, very useful, tough, good in CC and allows you to reposition units. Alternitavley A simple chaos lord with wings and deamon weapon could add some punch to the raptors
Elites
Again another common unit is a squad of 4 termies, 3 combi plasma's, heavy flamer and a fist for 150pts. Thses can deepstrike like the deamons and unleash there combi-plasma for mass deavstation, then prove a tough unit to get rid of, all for a cheap cost.
Troops
This is mainly down to personal preferance but since you wanted a shooty army a nice squad is noise marines: 6 man, 5 sonic blasters and one blastmaster can pump out loads of shots. I'd steer away from khorne if you wnat shooty, but all the others can be good shooty units. Failing this the basic chaos warrior is very good but most tend to mount these in rhino's
Fast attack
I'd go for 2 squads of these perhaps, I really like them 7 man squads with either MoN (expensive) or MoK (cheaper) or just IoCG which would probaly be best, you need a Icon for pinpoint acuracy on the deepstrike
Heavy support
Points are running out, now so I'd pick up a pair of preds destrutors, with las sponsors for AT
Deamons
Never used deamons before so can't offer much advice, but the greater deamon is the best thing bar termies in the dex point for point IMO I'd definatley pick on of these up

Sorry I can't be of mssive use but its mainly down to you want do you want in your army, I've made suggestions on what I like but the choice is yours, Be sure to post a list whem you've decided,

Be warned the daemons don't really have the bite they used to...although to be fair I've heard that a series of calculations (I'm not sure where I read it or their nature) revealed that they are still points-effective close combat units compared to other comparable cc specialists.

The way I'd personally make this list is to go all infantry:

For your shooty troops base, noise marines or thousand sons are good units. Plague marines with plasma guns are also a strong choice, but more defensive in nature.

For the anti-tank portion of your shooty element, I'd stick obliterators in heavy support.

Raptors with icons in fast attack.

Bikers can also drop daemons in.

Daemon prince is the most points-efficient option for HQ, but if you need more icons, a sorceror with an icon works too (slaanesh sorceror with jump pack and lash of course :) ).

Greater daemons are good for their points too, but they're also slow.
