This doesn't really spoil the movie but i feel i should include this anyway cause it is pretty cool going into it knowing nothing.

Just saw cloverfield.

Did anyone else feel that the monster looked a lot like a biotitan? a lot like a heirophant without guns and longer front legs.
It had 6 legs. Four long scything talons, two short ones that looked like they did nothing and had become under developed. Also had egg sacks that deployed gaunt like creatures that the imperial guard (americas troops) got destracted by, but were defeatable in combat by civilians.
Its face was amusing as when it looked straight at you it reminded me of an Orc iwth a square chin and lips that were not straight.

Kind of underwhelmed me because I was hoping for something really out there, new and interesting. But hey, it was still cool seeing a heirophant ripping up stuff.

(ps: Actually reminded me a lot of a carni i made that was styled on the baby heirophant)

Anyone else get this?
or thoughts on it in general?

I, too, saw Cloverfield, and I must say I liked it.

Though, I can't quite agree with your comparisons. The monster did definitely remind me of a Bio-Titan, but I can't say they were too similar. In fact, they looked quite different.
As for the little crawlers, they, too, acted like and reminded me of Gaunts, but again, I don't think they look like them.

I had similar nerdy thoughts when I saw it. ;)

* spoiler space *

I thought it was a good snapshot of a Tyranid assault - a great big bug, a whole lot of little bugs (rippers? gaunts?), plus a microscopic infection to help digest the prey.

I had no clue this existed. Sounds like fun. Is it good or just a slightly better version of that awful Godzilla movie from the late 90's. I don't want to ask too many questions and spoil it for people but at the moment the info on all the 'offical' websites is rather useless to put it mildly. Just people looking surprised and screaming, no Hierophants though.

yeah leach i'd recommend you see it, try not to spoil it for yourself as i said earlier. It is definatly a see at the cinema movie. And was fun and interesting if not a bit short.

You'll enjoy it and probably draw the comparisons yourself.

Ok, it wasn't exactly the same, but there were definate similarities that made me think biotitan and swarm.

andrew: what was this infection? you mean the explody thing? or was there more that wasn't shown?

We don't know.
You see and know what the characters see and know. If they don't know something by the end of the film, neither will you.

Just a quickie for anyone who's going to see Cloverfield anytime soon: Near the end, where they're in the ferris wheel (on the previously recorded tape), look into the ocean. I didn't look for it myself, but I hear you can see something fall into the ocean in the distance.

yeah illegal that is exactly what i mean, there are just things dotted around the place that give hints. There are also websites that have information on them which detail what happened in the lead up to the movie I am lead to believe

Thanks, that's helpful. I think I will try to get out to see it. The way they are doing it from the perspective of what the people taped makes it sound similar to the Blair witch project. Apparently the Blair witch in New york with aliens and no witches. That would be a crappy sequel to the Blair witch, 'The Blair witch takes New york' :0.

Well, I was under the impression that the smaller critters didn't come from the big nasty itself; they didn't resemble it at all. I believe that they were parasites, like fleas or something.

You know what the big monster reminded me of?

A big monster.

I just saw it tonight; pretty good flick.

The big guy reminded me of an enormous Genestealer actually. That's the closest thing I could come up with. Defiantly not a Hierophant.

Dude, to be honest, I kinda thought it looked like a huge fishy kroot. The little things were definitely bugs, but the big one was much more of a fish/amphibian than anything else...

I saw cloverfield myself(yeah, I know it's a little late to be posting here, but it was awesome). Actually, I saw it twice. There were a lot of people who were disappointed, but I loved it. At least it wasn't another Blair Witch-we actually saw the monster. (I mean come on: ninety minutes of a close up of some twentysomething's snot-nosed face saying "im so scared" over and over and then one shot of a guy facing a basement corner? Can you say cop-out?) The monster did remind me of Kroot- but I can understand the Tyranid-infection parallel. When it comes out on DVD i'll watch it again with that in mind, because let's face it-that's the closest we'll ever get to seeing 40k on the big screen.

Actually, there was a 40k movie under production in Germany. It was nearly finished when GW realized they had to stop it.
German laws would have automatically granted the movie production company rights to sell toys based on the movies. I.e. we could have seen entirely different models (and rules!) coming out of Germany.
Makes me kind of wonder whether that was the plan from the beginning.
