The AdMech fleet has appealed to me since I started playing BFG (currently about 4k worth of eldar corsairs) but I understand them to be something of a challenge to play compared to other, traditonal fleets such as IN or chaos. I was hoping to get some advice from anyone experienced with/against the AdMech as to what to avoid or go for.

I was considering building a ~1500 point fleet of roughly 1 battleship, 3 cruisers, and 2 light cruisers or perhaps some escorts, focusing on ranged shooting (2-3 nova cannons, 45cm batteries) with limited ordinance support (dictator and a defiant) more for protection than anything else if that helps with general advice.

Heya,

having some games with the AdMech under my belt I can give some tips (only 1 victory, 3 draws, 3 losses, hehe my 'weakest' fleet).

Seen what you want I'd say a Retribution with Nova Cannon as battleship. 390
Dictator Cruiser 255
Gothic Cruiser plus Nova Cannon 235
Lunar Cruiser plus range 225 (maybe not the best option but once you have small games with lesser choice the Lunar is a good all rounder, especially in scenarios/games with only 1 capital ship)
Endeavour plus range 145
Endurance 135

totalling 1385
add a Magos for 50 with re-roll 50 and range on Lunar or Dictator to get to 1495 pts.

With all those turrets one Dictator is enough. You could do a carrier Battleship like the Oberon as well but the Retribution has benefit of speed. Give the Retribution always the Weapon Gift (with Magos or rolled a 6 on the dice for leadership).

Alternativel you could drop the Endurance, re r-olls and upgrades to add escorts (Hunters/Gladii/Swords).

Thanks for the advice, I had more or less figured the retribution was the way to go. I like the Ark, but it just seems painfully overcosted (in addition to the admiral requirement...) in a fleet which is already strapped for spare points. How do you feel about a Tyrant with a nova cannon instead of the gothic? There are a few eldar players in the area and I feel that the extra 45cm batteries might be worth the investment, as well as further helping the fleet with longer ranged strength. Having never used them (I currently only play eldar corsairs) is 2 nova cannons in 1500 points considered excessive or are they balanced enough by the small fleet size to be justified?

Heya,

since the latest nova rules (v1.5, current rulebook) many consider it a very nerved weapon. Having 1 per 500pts ain't even cheesy. So 2 is fine.

Tyrants ain't that bad but somehow I'm just no fan. They cost more then a Gothic thus make it even more expensive with a Nova. Furthermore a Gothic is easy to use as it ain't bothered with target aspects thus a Nova is just neat on the fly in.

The comment about the Ark is indeed the sad truth.

Won yesterday against Chaos 1250pts.

BatRep up soon.

Retribution with AWR, crippled Dev in 1 turn, then a Carnage crippled in 1 turn and another Carnage (2 hits down) in 1 turn.
3 Gladii crippled a Slaughter with 1 shot.
Gothic with AWR caused havoc among Chaos fleet.

Nova missed.

Sorry if i'm a bit late on post timings or whatever.

My opinion is the gothic cruiser is pretty much obsolete in this list due simply to the fact that since every cruiser has one 60cm Lance with All but Rear fire. and when you have 4 cruisers that is like having a double range slightly more versatile gothic broadside and one less cruiser. But if you love lances then another 60cm lance on a gothic is just genius (5 lances to one side at 30cm is pretty good) and actually saying that i do have a gothic i just think damm it looks cool, i know of no one that plays and well i've only started beggining of the year!
