DA fluff help please.

I'm thinking of making a DA succesor chapter but I need to clarify a few details first.
Am I right in thinking that only the 2nd founding chapters know about the Fall?
If so are they all named by GW?

Also, I know its a generic term for SM's but is the name Angels of Death already taken by a chapter?

You are correct in that officially only the Second Foundings and the Dark Angels are the Unforgiven. There are some players who have made later foundings that also hunt the Fallen. The explanation that I tend to prefer is that they've encountered both and are confused. Then they take up the mission of hunting the Fallen to figure out what is going on within the Unforgiven.

Officially, the Angels of Death has not been taken as a specific Chapter name thogh it is used generally to describe the Blood Angels, Dark Angels or Space Marines in general.

I think I can get a basic fluff outline down then:

Chapter name: Angels of Death
Homeworld: None as such, recruit from several planets on the Eastern Fringe. Mostly to the Galactic north of Ultramar
Gene Seed: Dark Angels
Founding: 3rd
Gene Seed Purity: No known Mutations.

History: (this is going to be fleshed out over time) Since they are a 3rd founding chapter their knowledge of the Fall is about on par with that of a battle brother of one of the Unforiven Chapters. As such they consider themselves in need of penance befre they are worthy of bearing the Heraldry of a normal chapter. Thus they wear no chapter badge or battle honours and have refused to take a name in which they could take pride, and so they are simply known as the Angels of Death, as it is a generic term covering all Space Marines. In order to gain the Emperor's forgiveness their entire 10,000 year long history has been spent on a penitent crusade dedicated to destroying his enemies wherever they may be found. In the last few millenia this has led them to the Eastern Fringes where a great many foes can be found, most recently the Foul Xenos threat of the Tyranids.

Colour scheme: Black with silver trim on shoulder pads and white helmets to denote veteran status. No chapter badge or battle honours, eg awards for bravery(see fluff).

There is a small flaw in this. The average Unforgiven Battle Brother doesn't know about the existence of the Fallen or about the Fall itself. All they know is that they are Unforgiven and that they must be extremely pious to receive forgiveness. They will know more once they gain access to the inner circle but not before.

Hmmm, I think I could still make it work, after all what I'm really going for is that they are trying to gain forgiveness but don't exactly know what for. Or how to get (the way the Unforgiven are trying to anyway) so they just go on a massive crusade.

That works.

Though it doesn't even need to be tied to the Dark Angels. Perhaps on one of their first battles as a new Chapter the only standard the Chapter had was captured and destroyed by a Xenos army. Recalling an ancient Terra tradition, the Chapter can not come home (to a homeworld) until they recapture their standard or capture the standard of those who desstroyed theirs. Through the millennia, the reason for the Crusade has been forgotten along with the identity of the army that captured their standard, but the devotion of the Chapter remains strong and they continue to fight on a Crusade through to the present day through duty and obligation.

Just an idea for you.

Hmm, that does seem to bear thinking about. The main reason I want them not to have a chapter badge is so I don't have to make one up/paint one. Mainly because I'm lazy and my painting skills are virtually non-existent. No matter what though I think I'll stick with DA Geneseed, mainly because their just so cool.

I am the Monkey King I think the basic premise of your idea is OK. But how about taking it a touch further?

Why not bacome a 'Loyalist' Fallen Unforgiven Chapter. That is- Fallen Dark Angels who have realised the error of their ways and have turned back to the Emperor (and the Lion) for ultimate forgiveness. In order to achieve this they are so shamed by their debassed chapter iconography that they have vowed not to wear it until they are totally absolved. Hence their crusade.

Zuriel: It's a good idea just not really what I want from my chapter. I don't really want their to be any doubt as to their loyalty (which their would be with a Fallen chapter). WHat I'm really going for is a chpter that I can play as codex with disagreeing with fluff but who I could possibly play as DA should I later decide to do so. In casae you haven't guessed I'm pretty new to 40K.

Also one other question (since my fluff is probably subject to change in the near future) is it definite that there are only three 2nd founding successor's of the DA?

Yes, They are established in the Codex and in some other fluff. The larger Legions still have some holes in their Second Founding. The Dark Angels lost many of their number in the Fall. 3rd is the earliest for the Dark Angels seed.
