I'm not sure how much mine cost (canon powershot G2), but I know it's a good one . You don't have to get a really expensive one, but do get one with Macro function, it's great for taking pics of minis.
I used a digital camera rencently to take photos of my minis, in low light you have to keep the camera perfectly still or it will blur the image.
So I bit the bullet and scanned them instead, go to the chaos section of the gallery to see the difference between my Dreadie ( digital camera ) and a champ
( scanner ) I found the scanner worked much better.
but then again you can't blackmail people with incriminating shots you took from your scanner.
