Dodgy Rules

[Not sure if this is right place to post this but anyway....]

We have probably all seen it an army or houserule that is not just illegal (in game terms) but also grossly unfair.

I was wondering what was the most appaling breach of sportsmanship/beardyness you have ever seen committed? nothing codex legal please

To start us off I once played a scenario which my opponent had written the rules for, I had to break into a nigh impregnable fortress defended by blood angels and space wolves with about six special characters (all the usual suspects) andsurrounded by a power field of course. If I didn't make it within two hours (real time) enemy reinforcements would arrive. Oh and he had decided to take all four Imperial assassins.........

Any way played the game (he was providing tea and biscuits) got trounced and (I am ashamed to admit) in the spirit of revenge I thought up my own develish scenario (I believe it involved five squads of devestators and no cover).

Any way surely I am not the only one to have played against such vile tactics

My question is why did you agree to a game like that?
The Fortress of Ultimate Cheese.

? All the Space Wolf and Blood Angels characters and all 4 types of Assasins in a big fort?"

Were you supposed to be playing the siege of Terra?

Oh wait, the Space Wolves weren't there for that.

You know, that might make an interesting battle report.(Siege of Terra that is...)

Hmm. Well, the most dodgy games we came up with were:

2500pts a side, 4 player game. All units except vehicles and HQ recycle onto random board edges. On a 4X12 table. Lots of bizzare terrain features with hidden traps, monsters and teleport type effects run by the referee(me). At the center of the board was a fortress defended by hordes of lizardmen(?!?) and a Slann/Old one using 2nd edition spells fighting against everyone.

And another way back in 2nd edition.

20 Wolf Guard Terminators versus...
All the fantasy models we owned. Something like 400+ models.
Needless to say, if you recall the stats on the 2nd edition assault cannons...the SWs won.
See less See more
Yes yes I recall SW stats LOl,

as to why I fought the battle well he was a friend so i wasn't going to throw a strop he had set up the board and every thing and like I said he was providing the refreshments etc.

no it wasn't the seige of terra (that would have been fair) i was eldar I had created a normal 3000pt army and everything.

Had somthing similar in WHFB, mate said build a cavelry force and we will play a game where they have to get to there objective accross the river. I did this and rock up to find the board set up with an easy to cross river and on the other side......a massive 1ft tall castle extending all the way accross the board and lined with archers......I didnt make it accross the river. got him back the next time by having my giant continuosly hit his doombell. not 40k but still very dodgy
In my naive days starting out in second edition 40K, one of the only people around to play against was a guy notorious for cheating. He'd frequently throw dice behind terrain (so its result was invisible to the rest of us) and then quick snatch it up, claiming it was a 6.

The worst case of blatant cheating was when he claimed that a Chaos army was able to feild units from any other army, as Chaos is able to corrupt anything. This was back in the day when I didn't have access to other army lists to check things, and he was strangely reluctant to lend his Codex out to others to examine.

So I ended up playing against him, me playing Eldar, him playing basically all of the Chaos special characters, plus Chaos Eldar Warp Spiders, plus Chaos Eldar Harlequins.

A squad of Swooping Hawks managed to take out the characters, and the rest of my army mopped up his stragglers, and I never played him again.
