Hey all, I have been looking into wound play with beast packs. And I have found an interesting combo that actually worked really well. Mind you this is not something to rely heavily on but it works just well enough to keep your unit intact until the turn two assault. So with out further ado here it is...
First off I ran my beast pack with four Beastmasters, five Kymerae, four Razorwing flocks, and a single Clawed Fiend. Then I did the old 5th ed. strategy of attaching the Baron to them. When I deployed them I put the Baron and the four Beastmasters up front. I then moved up the full 12" on my turn one into the central terrain piece. When the Necrons shot back at me with their Annihilation Barges and warrior blob I used Look out, Sir! to disperse the wounds throughout the unit putting the high strength shots on the Clawed Fiend and Kymerae. then dispersed the low strength ones to the Beastmasters and Razorwings. That way I was able to keep the whole unit alive (minus a poor beastmaster) for my charge into the warrior blob on turn two. And to top it all off the clawed fiend had 8 attacks on the charge! this tactic proved to be very very effective. Oh and before you say "The Baron would slow down the unit on the charge" I would like to point out that even if the beast pack moves 12" the Baron can opt to not use his Jump move in the movement phase and can then use it in the assault phase to ignore the penalty of charging through terrain. Oh and because the beasts have move through cover the Baron ignores dangerous terrain.
All in all I think this is a win win scenario. It will kinda work without the Baron but the look out sir roll is much better with him. Plus with the Baron's PGL you don't have to worry about terrain. So what do you guys think?
