I came up with a strange little idea for orks (as the strange bloodaxe traitor that i am :) ) while in the bathroom.
What if there were a ranged ork scout elite...
so i came up with a little elite choice for friendly games and was wondering about if you people on the forum think it is a balanced (non OP) unit. :)

Here is the statline (i post points here since this is NOT in any way official GW rules, if this violates the forum policy, please tell me and i'll change it.).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gutgrinda and pinpointa, 75 PTS
stats:
4 2(3 grot) 4 4 2 3 3 9 3+ (almost like a nob, but with higher LD and Better AS)

Rules:
Waaagh
Mob rule (even though never possible to achieve it is still standard for orks)
Furious charge
Slow and purposeful
Scouts

Wargear:
Big choppa
NO slugga
Long-Las sniper grot Pinpointa (standard Las sniper following IG rules but fired with BS 3)
Stikkbombz
Bosspole
Scavanged scout armor (3+ AS, 5+ invo)
Night vision goggles (night fighting does not affect the nob and grot, the additional retinue is still affected)
3 ammo pouches (acts as ammorunts)

Options:
May add up to five shootaboys, 5pts per model
all of the shootaboys may take eavy armor 5pts per model
three of the shootaboys may take big shootas 5pts per model
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Such unorky things scare even me *shivers* they are even more unorky than kommandos, but never the less it would be interesting to play and a fun concept in a bloodaxe army, guess they would enjoy all the basic dakka tho... :)
your thoughts? should the point cost be higher?

I like the idea but I think you need to tweak it a bit. Some background info like in the codex would be nice so the player falls in love with them, and wants to play them. Here are a few thoughts:

75 points seems like a lot

I think 3+ armor is too good, but 4+ would be acceptable, with 5+ for the added shoota boys. In my mind they should be sneaky, nor bulked out with armor.

Think I'd replace furious charge with shrouded, just makes more sense.

3 big shoots is a bit much. Why not allow 4 more boys, 2 with sniper rifles and two with spotta scopes. Use the scopes like a marker light for the Tau. If the spotters can see the enemy, make some kind of check for this, the irks get a bonus to their BS or increase the AP of their shots as the spotters see kinks in the enemy armor.

I am with Scoutfox on this one. Less armour therefore remove slow and purposeful, should perhaps get move thru cover ( or does Scout do this already?)

Overall its a great idea and I think with the nerf on Komandos we have been waiting for an alternative to have some Outflanking fun!

Agree on comments. 3+ is definitely too good. I think the standard ork practice of "scalvenging" armor results in 4+. Only the kaptain badruck has 3+ armor in the whole codex. (besides mega armor...but that's got mega in the name!). I'm actually slightly terrified at GW releasing a new ork codex, because after seeing what they did to the daemon flamers....im really worried they are going to make the best ork armor possible a 3+.

those are some great ideas, and yeah 4+ armor would perhaps be more truthful, and i actually have a lot of backstory för the character, but it is a bit too long for me to type it on the forum :)

anyway, about the armor
the unit would mostly be stationary and is thus exposed to ranged enemies, so i figured a bit heavier armor would protect the small unit from things the other armies have, ie splinter cannons, fire prisms, firedragons, immortals, bolters, autocannons, barrages, well, pretty much everythng that other armies have could wipe out this unit in a single round.
if this was a melee unit all the sneaky stuff would be awesome, but these guys are a range based spec weapon squad, that is also the reason for all the big shootas, they are still just boys when it comes down to it.
and about the markerlight and extra snipers for the orks, they are still orks, for them to actually use snipers themselves... thats just stupid, which is the reason for a grot operating the only sniper in the squad (higher BS, better eyes, more careful and such umie bulls*it :) ), and that is cause he and the nob is counted as a spec-character.
so i got a reason for most of the things, but shrouded with eavy armor=solid suggestion :)
and no more boys, it is a small, oddball, specialist squad that would not be popular with the other boys, in the backstory gutrippa hired the 5 boyz as mercanaries to help putting up some suppressive fire from the start but as time passed they became a specialist skarboy team in the local bloodaxe clan.

and slow and purposeful because it lets them fire the sniper while on the move, which would be resonable since the grot actually sits in the nobs backpack so he only has to worry about hitting enemies.

and if you think the points should be lowered, so be it :) also, if you want me to take a pic of the nob and post it i can do that.

anyway, here is the new ruleset with some of your input :)
