Is it true??

I read somewhere in a magazine (I think it was white dwarf mag) if you have an army aligned to a certain god, and you use that gods sacred numbers(7 for deathguard)for a squad, you can upgrade a champion in that squad to aspiring champ for free. Is this true? Does it work for all units that are given that mark, that are in a unit with that sacred number? For example if I had a unit of 7 terminators one being a champ, I can upgrade him to a.c. for free?? Cus that would be most excellent

btw are there any other advantages/rules to following the sacred number?

There was another thread about this recently.

Read Page 38 of your CSM Codex.(At least that what it is on mine.)

Yes. If you have a Death Guard list for example, then any unit of 7 with the mark of Nurgle(and they all have to be Nurgle) gains you a free AC or if they are daemons a +1 to the summoning roll.

The sacred number changes based on the god. 9 for Tzeentch, 8 for Khorne, 6 for Slannesh.

Remember though, this only works in armies totally dedicated to that god.

You can't say have an undivided general, and a squad of Khorne berserkers and hope to get the free AC by having 8.

Basically the free upgrade is kind of a return on the fact that such themed armies are typically limited in various ways.

The limitations such armies face is also on that same page in the codex.

Please read page 38 of the Chaos Codex, specifically the two paragraphs under the heading of "Favoured Units."

After you understand how Favoured Units work, please read the rules for each specific Cult army. You'll find these rules are also in the Chaos Codex -

World Eaters (Khorne) are found on page 48.

Death Guard (Nurgle) are found on page 52.

Emperor's Children (Slaanesh) are found on page 56.

Thousand Sons (Tzeentch) are found on page 61.

That's everything you need to know, all completely found in the Chaos Codex. Please note that while the Cult Legions share similar benefits and drawbacks, there are a few specific rules that apply to only a single Legion. For instance, the lack of Rhinos in a Death Guard list.

Actualy, that's incorrect. The free AC, +1 summoning for Sacred Numbers works only for World Eaters, Death Guard, Emperor's Children and Thousand Sons as they are special rules for those armies.

In order to play those armies and get the perks you MUST adhear to the specifications listed in the codex for those specific armies and you must declare that you are playing said army.
