Thank you very much for your insight. Would 24 CSM, 2 rhinos, and 1 champion be useful for helping me get started or should i steer clear of rhinos and the extra guys until i get 1000 points? THe reason im asking is because a store has a special going on so i could get the 24 plastic chaos space marines, 2 rhinos, and a champion for 90 dollars.
the four dudes left over could be used as havocs ( if you have some Hvy weaps )
the champion could be used for the havoc squad
then all you need is to get a suitible mini for your leader and badda bing badda boom you have a chaos force.
just a word of warning, under the trial vehicle rules rhinos ( infact all transports )
became alot more vulnerable, leaving you with horribly exposed troops, however these are only trial rules and you and your opponent have to agree before using them...so just don't use them.
BTW alot of gamers complained to GW about them, so they will probably be changed before 4th ed. hits the shelves next year.
Have you decided what kidn of army it's going to be? If not, here's a few pointers:
Start with 2 squads of CSM as troops, one rhino-mounted and equipped with close combat weapons and short range assault weapons (flamers/meltas), the other with bolters and a heavy weapon.
Then get a Lord or Lieutenant (not too expensive) to ride with the rhino-mounted squad.
Use a Havoc squad with missile launchers or a predator with lascannons (depends on personal preference).
Consider some Obliterators, or a second rhino-borne squad.
I mainly want a shooting army. Heres the list I made, even though i want my army really based around shooting I included a unit of posessed and a normal CSM unit with HTH weaponry, both of the units are in rhinos so i can capture objectives counter assualt ect.. Does this list look pretty good?( note this list is 1500 points not 1000 like i was planning before)
1 Chaos Lord (HQ) @ 160 Pts
Power Weapon (x1)
Kai Gun
Daemon Armour
Daemonic Aura
Daemonic Essence
Daemonic Resilience
Okay, I don't consider 7 really as a small squad, 7-8 is normal, above that is real good ^_^ . What I actually meant was those typical squads: 5 marines, 1 lascannon. Sometimes it's 6 to make it look better <_< .
