Hey everyone,

I love playing Kommandos with Snikrot, and I'm sure most people will agree that this is an effective unit.

However, I'm going to be playing in a 1500pt Tourney with a special rule that disallows 'named characters'. So basically, no Named or special characters allowed because the people that run the tourney are afraid of Uber Cheesy named characters like Eldarch, among several others.

So, I'm just wondering if Kommandos w/Nob PK, 2x Burnas, etc...are still effective or if I would be better off taking something else.

Also, I thought I would list the core army I plan on running, just in case it effects whether I Should run Kommandos or something else.

HQ
Warboss --Cybork, PK, Kombi-skorcha 105 pts.

Big Mek-- KFF, Cybork, Heavy Armor. 100pts (also I'm wondering if he can take a Burna or PK with the KFF. If not, then I'll just go with this option)

Troops

Troops.
20x Shoota Boyz, 2 Big Shootas and Nob w/ PK and Bosspole 170 pts. (in BW)
20x Shoota Boyz, 2 Big Shootas and Nob w/ PK and Bosspole 170 pts. (in BW)
11x Slugga Boyz, Nob PK & Bosspole+Trukk w. Red Paint and Ram. (+ HQ) 151 pts.
11x Slugga Boyz, Nob PK & Bosspole+Trukk w. Red Paint and Ram. (+ HQ) 151 pts.

Heavy
BattleWagon- Grot Riggers, Deffrolla, Big Shoota 120 pts
BattleWagon- Grot Riggers, Deffrolla, Big Shoota 120 pts

So far thats 1087 pts. Leaving me with 423 pts.

I was thinking of taking Lootas and Kommandos but I could also opt for Stormboyz, Burna Boyz, Bikers (Nob or Warbikers), Deffkoptas, Gretchin and a Looted Wagon (possibley for a cheap Transport).

Someone suggested I run a BW full of Burna Boyz and a Kitted out Warboss, along with as many Trukks full of Boyz that I can fit into the list.

Before I solidy this list, I'm wondering if Deffrollas are really worth it on a BW full of Shoota boyz. The only reason I'm questioning it's usefulness is because it's usually best to move more than 6" to Tank Shock a unit, but if you do that, then the Boyz inside don't get to shoot at all. There are times when I'm able to move 6" and shoot at things with the Boyz, but on the turns you can't do both, you have to choose between using a 20pt. upgrade to cause D6 S10 hits on a unit, or using a 170pt Shoota boys squad to fire 41 shots with BS 2. Am I doing something wrong in my tactics or am I misunderstanding the rules when it comes to Shooting/Moving?

Also, I would like to know if you can give a KFF Big Mek a Pk or Burna (I initially wanted to give him a Kombi-Skorcha, but I'm pretty sure that's not permitted.)

So what would you build given those options?

Thanks in advance for any opinions.

If you can't use Snikkrot, then lootas, warbikes, big gunz, and/or rokkit buggies would be more competitive than kommandos. That said, if you like kommandos, then use them. I'd just suggest a smaller unit size (9 or so) to minimize the losses if the kommandos don't get the side you want, and can't attack right away.

The list sounds good, and I'd definitely go with the KFF, but you should always have the full 12 boyz in each trukk. Even that won't seem like enough at times, so don't gyp yourself further. The nobz in the trukks also need bosspoles in order to be effective.

For the rest of the points, I'd field 2 units of 9 lootas, a unit of 16 grots to claim an objective, and a unit of 3 rokkit buggies. You could also nix the grots and rokkit buggies, and use a unit of 5-6 warbikes w/nob, pk, and bosspole instead.

Thanks Grax,

Actually the Trukk Boyz have 10x Boyz, 1x nob with PK and 1x HQ Unit (so 12 models in each Trukk).
The only reason I put the HQ In the Trukks is because if I put them in the Battlewagons, I wouldn't have exactly 20x Boyz, therefore I would lose 1x Big Shoota from the mob of Shoota Boyz.
Also, I'm just curious what you think about Deffrollas on a wagon full of shoota boyz. Unless I'm allowed to disembark before or after moving 12", I'm not sure it's always the best combination, since it seems you usually need to move more than 6" to Deffroll, but you can't shoot if you move that far.

Also, I would like to run Warbuggies sometime, but I only have 2 models (old trukks from GorkaMorka) that might be able to "Count as" for Warbuggies.

Ah, I misread the post. I usually put HQs in the trukks as well, and hide them behind the battlewagons. As you said, if they're in the battlewagons, you lose a big shoota, which isn't good. You'd be amazed how much damage I've done simply from concentrated big shoota fire.

When transporting shoota boyz, deffrollas are optional. They're nice, but not absolutely necessary. If the wagon were transporting nobz, I'd definitely take the deffrollas, but since you're going to inch your way up the board, it isn't as necessary. That said, it's still nice, especially as a deterrent, to keep infantry from charging close.
