Hey, I'm pretty new to WH40K, but I've been doing alot of research. So far i just have a very basic Tau army (fire warriors, a hammerhead, some battlesuits, a couple broadsides, and a half dozen stealth suits), but I'm really looking to expand.

Firstly, I've heard disputes on the advantages of different HQ units. Some people swear by the Crisis Suits, but they dont seem all that great for their price. I think the Etherals look really cool... and someone said they have an awesome ability involving increased morale or something. That would be pretty useful for several things... Any advice on this?

Also; I know this sounds really dumb, but I dont have enough money for a Codex yet :( So could someone give me the stats for Fire Warriors and Stealth Suits? I'm really sorry, but I'm just starting out, and on a limited budget ^_^''

Oh sorry :( Didn't mean to break any rules... still would like some advice on the Etheral vs. Commander though.

There are a couple of posts already that discuss this. I use an etheral for games above 1500 points in conjuction with a Shaso but I always use a Shaso. The extra firepower cant be missed and is an awesome asset. Some think differently though so check out some of these other posts and see what you think. In smaller point games though I think the Shasel and Shaso firepower is needed.

Good Luck.

Sorry about that i didnt know.

As far as finding out those stats go into your GW retail store and just sit down with the codex and make your army there then put back the codex when you are done, i've done that before.

Bah what cadre has two Shas'Os in it? If you want to be liked more take a Shas'o and Shas'el that would be looked apon a little better than two shas'os.

You've probably already done the expanding <glances at the dates of posts> but oh well, here's my two-bits worth.

The Ethereal is relatively cheap, both points and money-wise, and also confers the rather neat ability to reroll failed leadership tests. Of course, this has a flipside (otherwise more people would use them). The problem is, if the Ethereal gets *killed*... then everyone takes a leadership check, 'in shock that their semi-divine Aun just got skewered'... Given an Ethereal is admittedly not such a powerful model in and of himself, although he does advantage units he's in as well - think Bretonnian Sorceresses from Fantasy without the magic, if that helps - I don't tend to take one... but that's up to the style of play - and the theme of your army, of course.

As for the 'Double-Shas'o' idea, Mystic, I'd have to agree with Vulture there. I mean, a Cadre ranges from maybe twenty, to a little over two hundred and fifty, according to the fluff... unless you're using at least two force organization charts, is it really likely you'd have two Supreme Generals in the same army?

That's kinda like taking Two Company Commanders in a Spacemarine army, or something similar.

Here's an idea. You might actually want to BUY the codex.

Volewrath: The codex should definately be the next thing on your list. When I started, I didn't think they were that importent. Wow, when I actually looked at one, I realized how little I thought of their importance.

Accualty it talks about cadres being a little bigger than 50 tau. (Crazy if you ask me)

Well, in my opinion, if you want an Ethereal, get AUN'SHI (the special character one). It's the only decent special character Tau have. He's basically got rending claws cos of his skills.

Personaly I think o'shova isnt bad, he works well in my army because i dont have very many specialised units that are on the limited list.

I think Aunshi rocks much more than O'shavo. Partly I dont like O'Shavo because everyone seems to use him as a way of making their Tau more H-t-H effective but for the extra 5 points they still suck. You just cant get around it. Its a cool model but I dont like the character. Here you have this bad to the bone H-t-H fighter whose kicken everyones booty swigne that staff of his. The Aun is the man!

You should make a point of knowing the details of all the armys. You should know you foes list as well as you know your own. That is the secret of winning battle after battle.
Borrow freinds book is you can't aford them.
Plus the fluff is great. It adds to your enjoyment of the game.
