Marshall 'Atrox' of the Black Templars

Note: Atrox is Latin for 'Bitter and Twisted', a good name for a BT Commander I think!

Here is a unique Black Templars Force Commander, not unique because he's well painted, but because he's Magnetic!

Commander with Power Weapon, banner, Chain Sword & Unique custom head.

I'm not talking about his personality here, I'm talking about the fact that his torso, arms, head & backpack mount are all magnetized so that he can swap his wargear between battles, and also dynamically change his pose DURING the battle.

Commander armed with power fist, banner, combi-plasma/bolter & helmet.

There are literally too many possible combinations for me to post pictures of here, so I'll just show a random selection.

Commander armed with Storm Bolter, Lightning Claws, Iron Halo & Semi-helmeted head.

Here's a list of what he has:

- 11 Right arm configs
- 3 Backpack configs
- 4 different heads
- 5 left arm configs

Unless my Maths is wrong, that works out at a total of Six Hundred and Sixty different Configurations, and that doesn't even take into account the fact that I can pose him in infinite different ways even after selecting his wargear.

Commander armed with Master-Crafted Plasma Pistol, Iron Halo, Bionic eye&arm & Chainsword.

Basically, this guy comes with everything available in the Force Commander boxed set, plus a few extra configurations not normally available, including a Custom-Built head designed to evoke the knightly aspirings of the Black Templars.

Twin Chainswords.

Boltpistols Akimbo!

Here's some detail shots:

The detachable banner.

Backpack and Cape.

Rear three-quaters view.

Power Fist, Melta/Bolter Combi weapon, angry looking head.

All the parts.

This guy is currently For Sale , so it may be a bit late, but have you got any comments?

I know the painting is pretty shoddy, I was mostly just seeing if a project like this could be done, rather than creating a masterpiece, still, what do you think?

Harbish, my hat goes off too you.

That is truly one of the coolest things that I have seen, and I'm affraid I have absoultly no constructive critisism to offer.

Will you be posting a tutorial by any chance?

I could do so... next time I do one I'll do a step-by-step photographic record.
I thought as I read the post "hey, this sounds almost like an ad!" And guess what? It was!
Magnetizing a model isn't THAT unique you know...
...and he wasn't that good lookin' either.
Mostly on the bone color, needs improvement there. As wel on some of the metal parts, looks a bit thick.
Cool idea though, good work as well.
I picked up one of the Commander kits to experiment with magnets myself. After getting everything together, I realized that there's almost no need to do it. There's not terribly many ways you would -want- to configure the guy with the equipment available. It's a fun project though and good practice.

Yes I am selling him through the trading area and I shamelessly ripped my text off from my auction because it actually does a rather good job of showcasing him. I removed or altered all the text that told people how good he'd look as the leader of their army.

My aim in posting him here was to discuss the conversion I did on him, not to flog him (There's a reason I didn't post this in the painting area, I'm a far below-average standard painter as you can see).

Also, if you can show me another mini with a magnetic head, I'll agree he's not unique!

Yeah but he's a total babe magnet.

Agreed, the bone/white did come out too great, and some of the metal is untidy. I'm not sure my lighting rig / camera helped much as it does look better in real life. I had to turn the exposure right up to get a half-decent shot.

Here's the leader of my IG drop troops army, who I also magnetized:

I'm keeping him :)

Really good idea. Well done
Good execution, but it aint that unique - I saw at least one done like that on CMON.
Sweet! How did you do it? Good paint job too!
I hate you guys so much...thats way too cool...

I'll be making a tutorial next time I make one.

I don't read trading areas because I'm generally not interested in buying others work and I dislike advertising in general so If you want more positive feedback you probably want to rewrite the text more next time...

Anyway, magnetized heads are a bit unusual I suppose. I think most who do magnetized commanders generally put the magnets in the armpits or wrists, to be able to swap weapons, and sometimes on the back to switch between jumppack and normal backpack.
Magnetizing in itself isn't new though, I've seen a plastic carnifex where everything but the legs had magnets :)
