i dunno, its ur choice, all races have their ups and downs.
I would guess that he was looking for a more insightful reply than that, :D

I've decided to play Tau because they've got cool figs, their combat style is unique in the 40k world, (less verstatile than most armies, but good at what they do), and their backstory presents a refreshing change.

I only got into 40k back when 3rd edition first started out, but then only a little. anyway I lost interest because of the slow release of codexes and some other things. I've just gotten interested in it again, a few years later, and the Tau stood out to me. I like an army and a faction that represents order, skill over force. The look of the tau fire warriors, combined with the more skillful battle tactics needed to make them work was the first part. (staying behind cover and advancing till you can charge is for noobs, and close combat is totally overpowered in 40k, at least imho).

My alternatives to this orderly empire were eldar, but they're too fickle and I don't really like their backstory very much, plus I don't like the junk they put forth for troops. Another alternative was the rines, but everybody plays them, and I didn't identify with their backstory either. I think the idea of playing a young race, a very small force compared to the other empires, but on the rise rather than the decline, was cool. The rines have a knightly side to them, praying before battle etc., but their emperor is a false prophet. Millions die to satiate his hunger, the imperial empire is a big ol' mess. Just not my bag.

On the downside, I think the TAU have some huge weaknesses in the current form of the game. CC is overpowered imo, with so many scenarios allowing for 18" "neutral" zones, and so many other armies having fast troops, with power weapons, multiple attacks, 2 CC rounds for every 1 shooting... etc. etc.

But that's just how things look to me as an outsider, I don't have *ANY* battlefield experience with the tau yet, so maybe I'm wrong.

Um yeah because Tau are "For the Greater Good" and well i am know begining to think Tau are like communists, jk. Awesome fire power man. If your a shooty kind of guy the Tau are for you and thats an understatement. Just look at how awesome Crisis Suits are that should be enough to have a Tau army. But next i think im going for these new Witchhunters myself they look awesome. Best of luck picking your army. :D
