I was thinking of starting a fully tank army but I was wondering if the same restrictions apply regarding the amount of HQ, Elites, Troops, Fast Attack and Heavy support you can use? In other words, is the organisation chart the same for it?

best thing to do is go to the chapter approved site and download the free PDF files for the armoured company codex and armoured company vehicles list. depending on where you play it is hated or welcomed to have an armoured company. in the area i play it is chapter approved from games workshop so it is allowed. it is banned in some places.

restrictions apply like other codexes with a small difference. for the first two "troop" tanks you need 1 HQ slot taken up. that's ok since the minimum is 1 HQ and 2 Troops for every army. for every 2 additional troops you have to have a "tank ace" whihc takes up an elite slot. most different thing about it. well besides that fact it's all vehicles.. you can have some guys on foot but they have to have a chimera.

Another option is to do a standard IG army, but use the Mechanised doctrine.

So, you could do:

Command platoon w/ Chimera (HQ)
Infantry platoon w/ 3x Chimeras (Troops)
Armoured Fist squad (Troops)

That would be your basic stuff. Then you can fill the rest in with your Heavy Support tanks, etc.

If you want straight up tanks, and not necessarily guys in transports, then yeah - Armoured Company is the way to go.

yeah mechanized. problem is if you want more than three good tanks your in trouble. a lot of weapons can glance and penetrate side and rear armour of chimera easily front armour 12 can go down pretty quick to. of course, you'll have more units on the table to manuever i guess.

You'll also have Sentinels, Hellhounds... etc.

At least the Chimera isn't a useless tank. IG doesn't have any useless tank. ;) Other armies, do.

i understand. last time i played in calgary i used a psuedo armoured company list.

grenadiers doctrine
1: 5 man HQ squad
2: 7 man kasrkin squads with 2 plasma guns each
2: Chimeras for kasrkins
1: Hellhound
2: leman russ
1: basilisk

i still like the idea of being able to field 3 or more leman russ and still have 3 heavy supports to fill in with demolisher(s) basilisk(s) or griffon(s) though i don't have any griffons. oh yeah and leman russ conqueror can be HQ, Elite, Troop or Heavy Support almost forgot that. i think i'd rather take an exterminator in troops or elites than a conquerer anywhere.

what's with all the armoured company related threads lately??? i think it's time for GW to release a retail copy of the codex
