I dont mind people looking at my minis when Im painting or modeling in the GW, but I prefer it if people ask to.
As for in the middle of a game. Wow that wouldn't make me too happy. I'd just tell them kindy to stop picking up minis which are being used.

At my GW store, looking and asking to touch is highly promoted. If you do it once, you're warned. If you touch other people's models more than once without permission, they kick you out of the store. It kinda sucks cause there's this kid I play with who is bent on always winning, and he moves his figures 8 or 9 in. instead of 6 in., then when I try to show him where his figures SHOULD be, he's like, "OMG what are you doing! Put my Figurators down, yo!"

One good punch in the gut will curb this behavior.

The most effective I've seen is a guy who got so annoyed with people picking up his mini's that he bought a cheapy £5 pack of marines each week as a sacrifice, so that when people picked up his marines, he would snatch it back from their fingers, put it on the table, whip out a mallet from his hobby box by his feet, smash the figure and hand the mangled remains back to the inquisitive model-toucher.

It was a practice that caught on, and now hardly anyone bothers to pick up his minis anymore, and as a result his army is slowly growing by six marines each week.

if some one asks i let them touch the model but if some prick picks it up without asking i tell him to put it down and ask next time otherwise i'll hit them. most people are too scared of me to even touch my models so i have no problem really.

Its kinda hard when the childish staff (who i thankfully get on with) decide its a good idea to have a mock dogfight with your skimmers <_<

(Though my hammerhead TOTALLY won ^_^)

I go to a hobby store in my area called Rider's Hobby. On sundays is a day we Warhammer 40k players play and talk about other crap. But little kids sometimes come in the store. And we we leave to get food from a nerby fast food place, we usually leave a person that is still in the store in charge of watching our models. So far, little kids have touched our stuff, but after we politely tell them to stop, they listen. Also, even us players like to look at our opponents models, but we always ask first before touching.

Easy. When they're going to touch my model, I take a picture via the world's smallest digi-cam, and say, "If that isn't back exactly in the same spot it was, I'm breaking your arm."

the main problem about ppl touching models in my area is that their black and threatening them with physical violence isnt goin to work against a person that has about a million friends watchin their back but luckily for me i dont get many ppl touchin my models so yeah

A guy at my store has two space marine banner models with wicked huge banners that say look but dont touch.

he sets em up on each side of any board he plays on, but most people dont touch before asking anyways.
