I, unfortunatly, didn't start with dark angels until the third edition for you old folks out there. (hah, well, i'm in college and i visited my highschool a while back and felt old but I digress...)

This of course means i have next to nothing to work with as far as fluff goes in the current codex.

Could someone tell me a bit of the more ovbscure and interesting aspects regarding the Fallen darkangels?

and, I can never visit this topic without bringing up fluff based questions pertaining to customized models that are based on the fluff (hey, they're "fluffy models" (and yes it does get worse))

So, BobaHat, this is all your fault for the BRILLIANT suggestion. How old do marines last, assuming they don't get eatten or explode or something un-natural happens to them?

I think, operative word is think, that uh, whats his name not tycho, you know, the Blood angels Chapter master? Golden boy with the jump pack? I was under the impression that he was kind of old. Like he took office after their primearch whats his face with the wings died (man, LRSeriesIII is never gonna let me hear the end of forgeting those names).

Also Bjorn the Fell-Handed, before they turned him into the dubious "venerable dreadnought" was around in the time of the primearchs and the heresy, but then hes in a dreadnought now so it's um, well not exactly the same thing.

Anyway what is a reasonable age for a marine to die of (shudders) natural causes? (though i'm betting the only thing like that is if they have a tandem corinary and their 2 hearts explode when hes about to charge someone)

and anyone know the general time intervals between armour suit upgrades for power armour since the heresy? i mean is ther a rule of thumb?

I'm probably just gonna pick the coolest looking archive type they have in stock and use it for modding, but if a cool armour type happened to coexist with a reasonable time for an old marine to have been around yet still be alive today, well that'd be icing on the cake as it were.

For the fluff check out the 'fluff bible' in our download section. I believe this contains the fluff from previous editions. For more fluff try out some of the novel from GW, The 'Angels of Darkness' has a lot of info on the Fallen and Dark Angels. I highly recommend this novel, it's real good

They get several hundred years old. In some of the novels there are marines, being refered to as being this old at least. In the novel 'Angels of Darkness' there is an DA Apothecary who is 617 years old and still going strong

Re: More DA fluff questions... and a bit on "The Fallen

I think, operative word is think, that uh, whats his name not tycho, you know, the Blood angels Chapter master? Golden boy with the jump pack? I was under the impression that he was kind of old. If memory serves from the old Angels of Death Codex (which, btw, you still have mine, right?), that a Blood Angel will, on average, live somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 years or so, or at least that's a reasonable age. Now that is not the age for a natural death, more of an average. I can't see a marine accepting a natural death, and especially a BA (he would probably take his walker and go find some big nasty animal to fight no top of a volcano...I can see it now... :D ). Commander Dante ("Golden boy with the jump pack") is about 1000 years old...or he's been in office for 1000 years, I think I've seen both. Like I said, I think you still have the codex.

Now, BA are actually rather long lived, even for space marines (despite the Black Rage). So, I would guess an old captain could reasonably be anywhere over, oh, maybe 350 years or so? Check your old Space Wolve's Codex and maybe look into the Long Fangs and see if there's anything about age in there (other than just old).

By the way, since you have my Angels of Death Codex, you have a great source for all the old school fluff, so check that, it has a ton (I think...). Also, see if you can track down your old Codex Imperialis (I think that's what it was called) from the old 2nd Edition Boxed Set.

Also, if you want I think I have a few White Dwarves with Index Astartes articles discussing such things that I could look for this weekend.

Oh yeah, and the guy with the wings was Sanguinius...and you will never hear the end of this...

I noticed this old, old topic and thought I'd add on. Sanguinius, the dead Primarch of the Blood Angels, takes his name from the word "Sanguine" (sanguin?) which means "blood" or refers to having to do with blood in either Latin or Greek. Horus is an Egyptian god, and Konrad Curze got his name from... somewhere... that I can't remember.
