More Damocles rhino help.

Why is it that some people can ask to have their entire army list added up and have the points value posted without incident but I can't ask for a single vehicles point value to be posted without having the thread locked? Am I missing something or is the rule about posting material from GW publications being used a little harshly in this case.

I mean after all, people quote from the rule book, tell people the point costs of units, upgrades and weapon all the time.
I would understand if I was asking for all the rules as well as the armour values etc etc. but I'm not. People ask for clarification on things all the time on this forum without reprehension. Does it make any differnece is I ask my question like this
" I heard the Damocles rhino cost 150 points. Someone else said it was 100. Which is correct?"
What about..."I don't have my codex/army list/rulebook with me at the moment and my opponent is arguing about the point cost. Can you clarify it for me?"

It doesn't matter how I ask the question it is the same thing. It is also the same as most questions that are asked on this site except that I was honest and said I don't have the book. Perhaps I should have lied and claimed to misplaced my copy....Adam

Its the rules, by posting the individual cost of said rhino your are breaking the forum rules and possibly GW IP law.

Posting an army list as a whole is okay as its not possible for one person to get all the individual points cost per item (thus technically the said person never needing to buy a codex).

Both these question break the rules, its just the way it is.

The best we could do is direct you to a page in a official GW document (codex/rulebook/imperial armour etc).

Thats fine if they break the rules, but why are the rules not enforced on many of the threads that I have seen?

And if posting an army list is ok then could anyone add up my army list for me

HQ - Damocles rhino, extra armour, smoke

Troops - 2x 10 man tact sqds with missile launchers and melta guns

It is meant to be a 500 point army and I don't know if I have enough stuff to fill it out. Do I need to take more stuff to get to the 500 points??? Or have I gone over the 500 points.
All the threads I have seen (which is a lot) the rules are enforced without fail.

As to your list, technically,by asking someone to add it up you could break the rules, if you have the SM codex (which I assume you do) you could easily figure out the cost of the D rhino.

I can't help you add it up anyway as I don't have IA.

If I sound like i'm having a go at you i'm sorry, I am merely trying to point out the facts, no offence intended.
I'm not offended at all. I thank you for taking the time to respond unlike a certain mod whom I private msged about this situation.
Thats okay, just remember to keep on the good side of the mods :) They move swiftly and strike like lightning :O
The thing that really annoys me about this situation is that if the damocles entry were in a GW book I could just pick up the store copy and have a look. But as it is in a forgeworld book I am forced to spend over $100 for one entry. Which is exactly what I did when I bought the Lightning strike fighter. I spent $180 for the fighter and $100 ish for IA1 to get the entry for it and now FW wants me to spend an additional $100ish to get the damocles rule?
I spent almost $800 for my titan and still had to spend another $50ish for the 2005 update. (Again I did that for one entry. I don't see why I should have to buy $250 worth of book for 3 vehicle entries.
I can see why FW would want forums to keep their rules a secret, they are happy ripping off punters who already spend a fortune buying their models.
Agreed that does suck, the only other alternative is to not use it (or if you have a friend who has IA read his), otherwise there isn't much you can do.
Forge world books and point cost

Gentelmen:

The problem with using forgeworld items is first and foremost You are at the mercy of your opponent agreeing to play them. Second is the prohibitive cost and multiple items required.
As I am sure both of you are aware this hobby is a expensive one, there is just no other way to put it. On the subject of Forgeworld Books one of my local gameing clubs came up wih a good Idea, the members all chipped in and a "Club/store copy" was purchased. This allows multiple people access at the store and is a ready resorce. Furthermore the store owner contributed 1/4 of the cost with the provision that he could use it for other people wondering if any items were worth the cost of purchase. All in all its a win/win situation, or at least as good as it can get based on the prohibitive nature of GW/Forgeworld restrictions. Perhaps you can bring this up at your clubs next meeting/game day and work towards the betterment of your hobby in your local area.

Ok now I'm getting off the soap box.
