My Ultramarines Chapter, which ive built up for the last 3yrs, Which im soon going to change to my own chapter.
A few names i need to choose from not sure which goes with the army? The Praetorians, Praetorian Guard, Somehting Roman themed, the Praetors? Also is this a Company sized army? They will be ultramarine blue and bleached bone or white.

My list, all fully painted to competition standard;?.

  • Trying to make a close comabt squad of normal troopers but with hand made weapons, one of which has a homemade Heavy gun like a lascannon.
  • Trying to increase fast attack forces

  1. I seriously need help on how to defend against ELDAR
  2. umm...and hes also building up a Dark Eldar force slowly..
  3. I could do withsome useful tactics
  4. Wat could i do to increase its all rouind punch?

Is this one squad? If so, drop one of the three (captain, libby, commander) and split the other two up. Also, don't bother giving them terminator armour unless there's a terminator command squad to go with them. Also, don't bother with the standard bearer unless the rest of the "command squad" is in there, too.

You have a long-range weapon and a short range weapon on the same dread? What do you want him to do, long or short range stuff? Don't say "both," because there's no way to do it. You can't possibly use both weapons in the same turn at the same time, so that means every turn you're wasting half of the dread's power. Make up your mind. Give him a missile launcher and ditch the CC weapon, or give him an assault cannon and ditch the lascannon.

The termies would work nicely as a command squad for one of your HQs, but you have the same problem there, using a missile launcher AND a flamer? Again, no way you'll ever use both at the same time, so it's a waste. Pick a task for this squad and stick to it.

Nice, but two of the five-man squads would probably work better lumped together into one 10-man crew, especially if you're getting up close and personal. Also, what kind of weapons loadouts are you thinking?

Never used bikes, but I hear you need to max out a squad to make them worth it. Also, what kind of stuff do they have?

Again, you've mixed them up too much. Only two of these weapons have the same range. Also, you have a plasma cannon which is good for infantry, lascannon that works on vehicles, and a missile launcher that can do both. WTF? You need to figure out what you want to do with this squad. Again, don't say "both." Not an option. Marines are a flexible ARMY, in that the units can individually be tooled up for a variety of roles, but once you've picked a role, that UNIT will be very inflexible. Close combat or gunline? Anti-tank or anti-horde? You can make your ARMY do a couple things at once, but your UNITS must be more strictly organized, and as a whole make a flexible ARMY.

To fix this, you need to ditch either the lascannon OR the plasma cannon. For that matter, it's usually best to make all four specialists carry the same type of weapon(preferably not lascannons, as they are mucho expensive in dev squads). This assures that whatever you want them to do, they'll do well. Yes, this means they won't do something else well. That's ok. Build a different unit to tackle that problem. Welcome to the marines. ;)

Also, it's a good idea to give these guys a meat shield. The sergeant will help, but three regular bolter-toters will add to the protection. That means four guys have to die in your squad before the big guns get taken out.

Lastly, get rid of that meltagun. An "assault" weapon has no use in a long-range firepower squad that most likely will plant itself somewhere on turn one and never move the rest of the game.

Nice. I like the pred. Vindicators are always fun, too, but consider extra armour and possibly smoke launchers on these bad boys.


Overall, I have little experience with Eldar/Dark Eldar, but if you want to be faster, get more bikes. Assault marines are good, but you need full squads to make them worthwhile. Have you considered land speeders?
