Oh, by the way, I was looking for all of your likes and dislikes, and what you all think I should change and leave the same.

I'm not a fan on putting a Barbed Strangler on anything other then a Carnifex. Its just so weak, ESPECIALLY if you have biovores to spread 5" Template goodness.

Otherwise, just please please please call your gaunts something else. Anything that sounds like Rending will be assumed to have rending claws. :D

Alright, I think I'll change the Hormagaunts names to "triflings" and drop the two Warriors with Barbed Stranglers.... And then drop two gaunts, making 2 groups of 19. That should work. Tell me what you think.

Actually, one other thing bothers me about your list...your gaunts. What are they supposed to do? Are they there to kill troops or are they there as fodder? If their there to kill troops, then you're better off with standard Hormagaunts. Most core troop units have a WS of 3 or 4 so that +1 WS will really make a difference offensively and defensively. If you insist on making your own unique troops, +1 I will probably have the same effect as +1 WS, but for different armies. You'll be striking as fast or faster then most troops, which should make up for the offensive and defensive problems of a lower WS.

If you want your troops to be fodder, then drop the leaping all together. Fodder is a perfectly good use for gaunts (I tied up a venerable dreadnaught with 1 group of 5pt Spinegaunts), but you probably want to reduce the troop size by a few models. Twenty models in two units as fodder seems to be a bit much for me.

But either way, try testing it out before finalizing your units, if possible. Tyranids are fun to play no matter what you put on the board.

I don't like taking Warriors as a heavy choice. The problem is them getting shot to pieces. They are carrying a lot of firepower, but quickly turn into a target for lascannons, heavy gauss cannons, ordnance weapons, etc. Breaking up my warrior units and giving each a venom cannon in the brood gets me a a couple of venom cannons and spreads them around. That also gives me more hive node areas of influence.

I would also point out that, if you cut your species list down by 1, you could put a weapon beast in your Ravener brood. Nothing like having yet another venom cannon with 3 shots, instead of only 2 (on a warrior).

Also, it is always nice to give winged Warrior broods a couple of ranged attacks. That is because they cannot charge an enemy inside of difficult terrain. Some (2 or 3) devourers usually work nicely. That also gives you a way to whittle down an enemy squad before you charge

You need hive nodes in your gaunt broods. Really. I mean this big time. For just 10 points per node you get the same leadership as a Space Marine Lord Master. I always try to put 2 in large broods, in case a Vindicare or template manages to get 1.

The big weakness I see is an ability to hit hard targets (land raiders, monoliths, etc) with a strong ranged weapons. For those you really need a Carnifex with a venom cannon or even a barbed strangler (if you want to dual purpose it against troops).

Your tyrant is going to end up fighting tough characters in hand to hand combat. Give him an implant attack. 2 successful wound rolls = 4 wounds.

I have a very good answet to both your questions. Now, my gaunts have the leaping ability to get them to the enemy that much faster. You see, the faster I can tie up their troops, the more of a chanve my bigger guys have to survive, because the close combat blocks them from being able to shoot at the bigger units. And I use the venom cannons on my warriors in order to eliminate some more heavy units, but nothing as great as a land raider. And about the flying warriors, can't I use other units to go get enemies in difficult terrain? I mean, that's practically what Raveners are built for. Oh, and those land raiders....don't you thinka carnifex with 2 sets of scything talons with a 10 strength would be able to destroy it? Anyway, this is just how I had planned to use it all. I was just letting you know, so that you could re-assess things. If you still think something is awry or wrong, please tell me. Thanks for the input you guys! I will take dropping the leaping into consideration, though. That sounds like a good idea.

I play chaos. My legion Iron Warriors. i hate tyranids with a passion.I've never lost to a tyranid army , and i do not plan on it ether.ive played HUGE battles against tyranids. 3000+ pts games. I have about 20 friends i call defilers and basilisks.
battle cannon: 72" range 8 Str AP 3 ordnance1/blast. hehe i have some set as indirect fire as well. pinning in awesome against fast tyranid squads. What i do is
place that HUGE template over a squad of tyranids and watch them explode into
smitherines. the reason why i hate tyranids so much is thet ive seen some of the greatest war hammer players get wasted by tyranids. a friend of mine plays space wolves and we all know they get wasted against tyranids.i'm going to participate
in a tournament this weekend and i hope i face a tyranid army and wipe the battle
field with their masters face.
