Here Is my 2000 point list that I am working at, but I am not very smart with guard since I have neither played with them and only played against them once, but after reading soooo many guard novels, marines just sounded too invincible and cheesy and the guard sounded cool. So heres my list, bear with me because I am very new with guard.

Congratulations, MetalMilitia! You are one of the very few people who have realised
that a Medic and Standard Bearer must be Veterans. :) Ive seen some IG players who
claim to be Veterans and make that mistake. :p

Just to start off with one very small correction. Your master-vox is listed as 20 points
where in fact you must pay 5 for a vox-caster, and then you may upgrade it to a master-
vox for an additional 20 points. :)

In regard to your only question I believe lasguns are the best choice for the HQ unless
you are prepared to spend more points on heavy/special weapons. The CC option simply
reduces your massed 'shots' per turn at the enemy, however, with Veterans (two attacks)
and CC weapon/las pistol then the idea is more feasible. Close combat Doctrines such as
Hardened Fighters and Xenos-Fighters are excellent for this role.
[NB - I do not recommend charging your HQ in simply because you may lose your
master-vox cheaply.]

Speaking of Doctrines, you REALLY should use 5 (maximum). For example, Close
Order Drill is free and boosts infantry stats significantly. Sharpshooters may also be
worthwhile for you (massed infantry). Say if you fire 60 shots from your Infantry squads
as your opponent is closing in, 30 will miss. With the Sharpshooter Doctrine you will re-
roll 10 dice (average), which may give you 1 or 2 more kills per turn. At close range of
the lasguns you will re-roll 20 to hit dice. I strongly advise you to study the Doctrine
choices and pick the ones you feel the are the most appropriate for your army.

I would recommend:
* Sharpshooters
* Iron Discipline ( for your Command squads - its Godlike )
* Xenos-Fighters/hardened Fighters (maybe - can be expensive)
* Close Order Drill
* Something cool :)

The only flaw I see in your army is that your infantry do not have any heavy weapons
with them. 6 or 7 extra heavy weapons will dramatically increase your squads
effectiveness per turn. The heavy weapons will also be the last models to die in each
squad, ensuring that you can squeeze the most out of your squads! ;)

If you can find a spare 33 points, include 3 Ratlings simply for the pinning tests they can
cause and the annoyance factor to your opponent :ph34r:

The rest of your army is very good. Its actually a very strong army and id be happy to use
the same list :w

Oh, if you know what army you are going to face we can give more detailed advise for you! 8|

Hes going to play along WITH me in team 2 on 2 battles. I play daemonhunters. If you want to check out my daemonhunters army list, its in the daemonhunters section, just look for my post name.

I have a question for ya. In the offchance that my friend metalmilitia(his name is mike if you just wanna call him that) plays against my army, what would tactic be? I just wanna know incase he decides to battle me one day at GW.

K thanks for the input, I think I will make a few corrections tonight, like changing the lascannons to heavy bolters, and perhaps adding ratlings instead of meltabombs on the stormtroopers perhaps... any more suggestions? BUT the 2 questions, if i bring doctrines, doesnt that limit me to be able to bring less special things if I wanted to add them later? Also I was thinking about doing the Cadian Doctrine since I already pretty much am following it, this would not allow me to have ratlings or ogryns though. But I really like the Cadians and would like to base an army around them, Also what sort of weapons should I put in the regular squads, although (because of shortage of money) I wont be able to have them in there until after Christimas or later. Also should I really take the Las Cannons out and put heavy bolters in?

by the way stan this is my army list make your own post in Daemonhunters about how to beat me, youve already beat my marines enough anyway :(

Well, I'd start with Cadian doctrines untill you play a few games and find out what you like. The cadian doctrines are actually very nice, you get Iron Discipline, Sharpshooters, Special Weapons Squads, good start. And there is no requirement to use any models with any doctrines, you can use Valhallans as Catachans if it strikes your fancy (not sure why it would). So if you use cadian models for a Mech force, thats fine. A CC force, fine. A Drop troop force, not fine. Just kidding. Seriously.

Oh, one more thing. I'm not sure what the rule is on links is, but I'd check out this site. Great IG specialist site.

DONT LOSE THE LASCANNONS! sorry for the caps... but really id say keep the lascannons in the HQ and stick HB's in your infantry squads, and take out the melta/flamers and throw in plasma guns because 1) they have longer range 2) they deep fry anything. keep the flamers/melta guns if you plan to walk up slowly towards the enemy with bayonets fixed, but if you plan to stay back and shoot, go for plasma. just my thoughts, good luck with the IG. :p

haha k thanks ill change that, I was actually just looking over it and wondering if I should do that, now should I keep the meltabombs on the storm troopers just incase some tanks do come over to my side, such as landraiders carrying termies or something?

and also I was saying if I take doctrines then I cant take the troops that I dont have the doctrine for, but considering my force fits the Cadian doctrine right now and I want to play Cadians because I like their fluff and doctrine I think I may stick to that for a while.

oh and what do you mean what are we playing? like game type? And just so you know this army is not being desighnted to fight alongside his daemonhunters, we just decided to start new armies and I chose guard and he chose the hunters so we thought it would be cool to play on a team with these armys since both have fairly new codexes and such.

Read the rules and general announcement. Army lists go in the army lists forum. Don not post the pts cost of upgrades or unupgrades squads/models. I removed em this time, next time I'll simply delete the thread.
