My Lord...51+ points of Daemonic Gifts....does this make him a DP?

My lord has slightly over 51 points of Daemonic Gifts...so does that technically make him a Daemon Prince? The codex states that he can 'claim' to be a daemon prince, but is this compulsory? I just dont think it is very Alpha Legion-esque to have a huge creature around...not that some of the bretheren of the hydra aren't DP...hehe:shifty: please could you clear this up for me so that I can begin modelling shortly.

Most people say you MUST model a DP, but since it says CAN claim to be a DP....... I don't know, and since the FAQ doesn't change the text, I say you don't HAVE to.
You don't need to use the DP model, but you are now a Deamon for rule purpose. Also, you should use some green stuff to make him look Deamonic.
That's but one of the tricky things in the codex.
The word Daemon Prince does not mean the Lord is huge. It means he is quite a daemon-guy alright. It means he has earned a reputation among other daemons. It means those not as daemonic will adore him and want to be like him. It means he'll be hurt by things that hurt daemons. He could still be "normal"sized though.
Daemonic stature makes him huge.

So he doesn't have to be uber huge? thats good then. I have mutated him slightly, like painting his armour so that he looks like he has an aura, and making his upper body strength more prominant. i modelled him around the old lord model, cos the new one doesnt look as good IMO. Do alpha legion even have Daemon Princes anyway? I assume that at least one of them must be. Although Alpharius was never ascended to the rank of Daemon Prince...hmmmm
The only things you DO have to model is Stature, flgiht, and speed. These are upgrades you have to represent as they cannot be justified by most base models. In touraments and such, these must be represented. If he has stature he must be monstous, as he gains monstrous creature rules. Flight, lets him fly, so some kind of wings or jet-pack, and for speed, he must have some kind of bonus locomotion. I've seen people disqualified in RTT's for not following the WYSIWYG rule.
It's a good question.

Things like daemonice rune will almost always take you over the 50pts but I see that gift as more of an item than a mutation (although you could obviously model it as a cool mutation if you wanted). My lord has more than 50 pts of gifts but I want to keep him looking more like a man than a beast. I fell that if you are not much over and you have done the obvious ones (wings, etc) then you are OK.

He can't just run fast? Superman does it...

That's what I was thinking. I guess it's all up to how strict the Judge wants to be. I would let it fly.

The only thing that you have to model onto a lord is stature and flight- but it all depends on how WYSIWYG you want to be. The rules for stature say that any model with it "should be at least 10' tall (to scale!)" and besides, you can't really get away with saying that your Raptor-leading Lord of choppy death flies 'by magic'. In that case I'd agree with a strict RTT judge in saying thats cheeky.
If you do have a lord with more than 50 points of mutations you CAN have him 10 feet tall with cannon barrels for arms but you don't have to. Andusciassus is exactly right here, in his learnéd state.

But they wont. The purpose of dem. speed is so that your lord can move as cavalry. And cavalry move fast. "He moves his legs really fast like the roadrunner" doesn't count. He has sourcerous powers that make him move fast? Then model it... Make him floating or standing on a floating platform, model fire shooting out of his shoes... Anything. It's really not that hard.
I guess I'll just glue some bikes to his feet like rollerskates. Might actualy look pretty cool.

On a side note: You would think that since a Statured Lord is 10 ft tall that he would move faster then a normal Lord. I mean his stride is longer therfore he should move faster.
If you don't want a huge daemon but don't want to step on toes about size, you could have a small dude and full the base with scenery that he is hiding in/sneaking through...which would be Alpha-ish...
If you want to show speed like he is running fast you can model it without extra limgs or roller skates. A: pose him so he looks like he is running(like bezerkers) B: have chains and plumes and other loose stuff flailing backwards and C: big blood splatter and mud splatter to show his speedy, unstoppable charge.

Thos are actualy some pretty good suggestions. Thanks.
Is there any other advantages to being a daemon other than just having over 50 points of daemon abilities and a kewl looking model? Only thing i'd see as a advantage/disadvantage is losing stats fighting against an army thats good vs daemons..

Well the advantage is giving him all those super cool gifts of course! The obvious disadvantage (not much of one) is the one you mentioned, fighting armies with anti-dameon stuff. But even if you happen to face an army with that, daemons usually still win the day. As it's rare that even a Daemonhunter player will deck his guys out with anti-daemon wargear (expensive), unless he faces chaos alot (tends not to be the case), or he knew he was playing you and specifically designed his list against yours (so its not a tournament anyway).
