Hey, im starting a new space wolves army and i was wondering what to get. I used to play Dark Eldar (and i still do) but i was just kinda getting sick of them. Anyways i was wondering if anyone could help me set up a pretty decent Space Wolves army. I have the codex.

Good to see another Space Wolves player.

If ind with space wolves, or any army you need to start with you core units and then build up. Terminators look cool but you can't field an army with only them.

My advise is this:

Grey hunters pack 1: 5 marines with bolter and ccw, 2 marines with power weapon and bolter, 1 flamer and ccw plus rhino mounted
Grey hunters pack 2: 5 marines with bolter and ccw, 2 marines with power weapons and bolter, 1plasma gun and ccw plus rhino mounted
Grey hunter pack 3: 5 marines with bolter and ccw, 2 marines with power weapons and bolter, 1 melta gun and ccw plus mounted in rhino

Blood claws pack 1: 8 blood claws with bolt pistol and ccw, 2 BC with power weapons and bolt pistols, 2 BCwith ccw and plasma pistols plus rhino mounted
Blood claws pack 2: 5 BC with bolt pistol and ccw jumppacks, 2 BC with power weapons and bolt pistols and jumppacks, 1 BC with plasma pistol and jumppack
Blood claws pack 3: 8 blood claws with bolt pistol and ccw, 2 BC with power weapons and bolt pistols and 2 BC with plasma pistols and ccw rhino mounted

Wolf guard get 6 wolf guard in power armour and arm them as leaders and asign them to each of the above packs
Wolf guard in terminator armour. 5 armed with thunder hammer and storm sheildand lightnng claws. 1 assualt cannon, 1 heavy flamer 3 storm bolter and power glove

Wolf priest with 2 wolves
Rune priest with 2 wolves

Wolf lord with four wolves

Dreadnaught armed with assualt cannon and power fist
dreadnaught armed with twin linked lascannon and missle laucher

6 wolf scouts

This should give you a good selection of models that you can use to sort out any army from 1000ptd to 2000pts. There is enough to give you a varity of army lists

if you want any more advise please don't hesitate to contact me.

good list but remember minimum size for grey hunters is 6 and minimum size for blood claws is 8 and bring an exterminator or attack bike

Good day to you all.
Heres some new blood with an opinion.
1* Never, and i mean never may a sqd of blood claws be smaller or equal at Grey Hunters. -ie the blood claws are upgraded to Grey Hunter as the get more experience in fighting.
2* Never, if you play with the new assault rules, give your claws plasma pistols, guns or melta, flamers, etc. They have, when vcharged 4 attacks and when they have been shooting you loose 2 of those attacks.
3* Do i hear the word Exterminator? Well thats something you may not forget to buy. It comes in handy towards every other army.

because nobody thinks an attack bike with a heavy bolter is a threat.

I find Longfangs too expensive and too fragile to field. With no extra troops, you start loosing your heavy weapons right away. I'd rather have two Predators, another unit of troops in a Rhino tooled up, or a squad of 3 attack bikes plus beefed up scouts.

But compare the 188 points to three attack bikes. 150 points and you get three twin-linked bolters and three heavy bolters, they can move 12" and fire everything, and 2+ save. You could uprade them to tank hunters with three multi-meltas and only be slightly more than a lightly equipped LF pack. Or a Predator with almost the same fire power and better survivability for less.

With the 188 point Long Fangs, the first kill takes out your expensive sergeant and you loose split fire, or you take out a heavy weapon troop. Unlike other chapters, LF don't get extra troops fpr cannon fodder.

My point being, for a Space Wolf army, Long Fangs are not an effective expenditure of points. SW are hard charging assault units. If you want to play a shooty force, I'd go with another chapter. It is fun to switch up and play different styles, but SW just don't do shooty as effectively as other chapters. Of course they can rip the face off anything in hand to hand :) SW just aren't shooty oriented.
