New to IG first playable basic army list

hey i'm new to IG and generally gaming with 40k, and I think I have made my frist basic playable army list, (I know I have no fast attack or elite choices yet)

the only glaring problem i see is the flamers, get rid of them. they are useless for the guard, take plasma rifles instead. take lascannons or heavy bolters if you can, they shred really well. also, one of your squads only has 5 or 6 gurad in it, the minimum size is 10, take them out, or expand. other than that its legal for what i can tell. hope this helps, good luck!

I've already built the flamer guys , and I think they would be quite useful for that sad time when I have to get in to CC

the "mini squad" is the luetenant and his staff look in the IG codex under collecting and IG army for the pic of a basic cadian troop selection.

and I don't think you can take plasma rifles
Flamers do really suck badly, Plasmaguns are the best option.

But mostly you need to buy some heaver weapons, guard withonly lasguns are useless in most scenarios, guard with only Flamers as backup aren't much better.

Also, I can't check my codex right now, but I'm not sure about that AC squad, just double check the number of men and the number of special weapons allowed.

Your Army is legal

You have the necessary HQ and 2 troop choices. By choosing the Armoured Fist Squad, you have the standard, minimum number of troops.

However, I agree with the comments above in that flamers are really poor compared with the alternatives. The melta and the plasma guns are able to take out heavy armour/monstrous creatures/terminators, which flamers and lasguns cannot.

Additionally, heavy support choices are what makes squad pack a punch. Therefore, against most armies I would suggest having a number of heavy bolters and autocannons. If your enemy has things with heavy armour or 2+ Armour saves, You may think of adding lascannons and/or missile launchers.

but as I said , I have alreadty glued up one flamer so I guess 1 out of my 40 men is going to have to have a flamer.

does anyone have any good tips on making plasma rifles?

Ah, my bad. I only counted 9. But I've got my codex and the AC squad is limited to 1 special weapon per squad, so you need to ditch one of the flamers to make it legal.

As for making plasma guns, I get mine from SMurf sets and I cut off the lasgun. Although Addoran made a thread asking about it a little while ago and someone posted a pic of how to turn a flamer into a plasmagun.
I'm sure that you can only have 1 Special Weapon per squad, so your dropping 2 Flamers, and one Grenade Launcher out of your list... other than that, it looks legal

There updated , I think you can only take one special weapon so 1st squad has 1 plasma rifles as does my armored fist , and my other squad has a grenade launcher.

Yes, infantry squads can't take more than a special weapon, but you can give special weapons to every member of your command sections.

Officers can't, but their guardsmen staffmembers can.

Why have you got two extra Veterens in the HQ? There's no point to them so you should drop them down to normal guardsmen. Also if you give your HQ JO an honirifica, he becomes an HSO for 5 points less. Then you can buy a Power Weapon which are cheap and handy.

Once again your Infantry squads could do with some heavy weapons.
