Hi everyone, im new to LO.

I need help on deciding which legion I could do, Night Lords or Word Bearers or any other Legions. I don't want to do any renegrade chapter like the red corsairs or the scourged, etc. Can you please tell me any ideas on any of the legions.

lame answer: play what has the fluff you associate with the most, or what legion has an army scheme that comes close to how you want to play.

I like iron warriors because they're heavy on the armor and the whole legion of unstoppable machines and machine soldiers is pretty sweet. I am iron man , and all that.

Night lords are pretty cool and had a pretty sweet primarch, and if you like fast attack and raptors, go for it.

its really all up to what you like to play, you can win with almost any decently thought out army if you play it well and understand the army selections.

I've been enjoying making a nurgle plaguemarine army with some basic troopers and raptors mixed in, almost all infantry . pretty cool fluff, really interesting troop selection, and i like the paint scheme, so that works for me.

I used to play night lords and as a novice painter i was able to make them look pretty damned good. if you can master painting the lightning bolts on their armor you will have a much better looking force than that of the word bearers.

However the newest codex has taken away all of the neat rules for the night lords. What you can do now however is integrate cult troops into your list. and with the new demon army coming out, you may be able to add some better demons to your list.

The Alpha Legion are one of the coolest legions out there loyalist or chaos.

Their fluff stands on deception, subterfuge, infiltration, diversion tactics and last but not least, putting yourself against the strongest enemies around and testing yourself.

They are less into the Chaos pantheon than other legions, in fact, one of the strongest reasons they had for rebelling was because they wanted hard opponents and the ultra marines were the hardest ones about.

They're classically infantry heavy, although not limited to infantry by any means. Basically, they're total pragmatists and will use what ever tools are necessary to get the job done with the least loss to themselves.

While other legions may be proud of their tanks or swords, The Alpha Legion will happily destabilise a planet's tectonic plates if necessary, or take 300 years in planning an attack which will wipe out someone completely.

Yeah.. just felt like ranting a bit there. heh.

I will chose some cult legion. Undivided legions lost all their special rules. With cult legion you can use cult marines and keep united style.

Legions like:

Death Guard - Nurgle
Emperor's Children - Slaanesh
Thousand Sons - Tzeench
World Eaters - Khorne

But most important things are fluff you like and your style of play.

:ninja:

I would suggest looking up what you would want in an army, and then looking at the most appropriate legion to represent that. Cult Legions are obvious...Iron Warriros would have no daemons, and lots of heavy vehicle based equipment. Night Lords are known to use raptors according to the fluff, so if you like raptors their a good choice. Word Bearers are Undivided Daemon users, so a daemon bomb army absent of cult troops or marks would be appropriate.

Night Lords have the best fluff and a paint job that looks good no matter how skilled a painter you are but are very hard to recreate with the new Codex. Though I will always be a Son of Kurze, I recommend Word Bearers. They're the ones who wave Icons and practice sorcery; with NLs you'll be constantly torn between 'fluffy' and 'practical'.

As for Lord of the Night, please DON'T read it. It was a complete atrocity for Night Lord fluff and a badly written book in general. Gratuitous violence (even by Black Library standards), foul language, graphic torture scenes and lots of crucifixion imagery make it quite unpalateable.

I like them both, both have a great look and feel. The Night Lords are terror specialists, they plan carefully and when they attack they do everything they can to make it known it's them.

The word bearers are the quintesential religious fanatics. They are also a legion that is ideal for Lost and Damned hordes.

Both are quite visible and evocative legions.
