well sister_mel if you want me to join the cause of the sisters then i you need to give me some help. i currently have 1500pt death guard army that is an all assault/infiltrating army. im looking to start a second army but i want something that will play differently. Apparently the SOB are niether shooty or cc. I want more of a shooty army so im currently thinking about gooing imperial guard but i could be swayed to the sisters.

A souple of concerns i have with the sisters:

is there any combination of weapons and wargear i can use to make the sisters better at mid-range and/or long-range? ive been told that the new WH codex will make them more flexible....

since the sisters are only metal which=$ and im a full time college student which=broke, is there a way i can make an effective SOB army that is relatively small in figs but still be in the 1500-1850pt range?

also could someone post a decent basic army list for the SOB

Ranged assault are not one of the Sob’s upper handers to put it straight. Our longest ranged wepon is with the Exorcist launcher at a range of 48", which the exorcist gets blown up on almost every second turn. The sob are not a foccussed shooty army and if you'r planning on using them like that all the time then you may not expect a handful of winnings. If you want a shooty army stick to Imperial Guard or Tau. All I can say is wait for the witchhunters codex to come out and there might be something to your liking there. There’s no point me going on about what you can do with the sob to emphasise their ranged ability when it’s all gonna be changed by the time WH is upon us, likewise with the sob army lists, I got loads of lists most have been written for different battle scenarios, but since I had that crash on my pc a few files have been wiped out and all i have of them are my printed copies. But I’ve got one or two army lists on file at collage which I’ll post for you if you want as soon as I can, but otherwise I’ll be posting my updated lists after WH has been released. Yes all sob are metal, and yes they are expensive, thats where other shopping resources like ebay come in handy.

well, It wont help versus vehicles, but I know how to up the affective range of the sob's to 36". deploy squads of 6, and make one of them a heavy bolter. that will make them a better shooty army, but they will still play better if you do other things. Thinking from that perspective though, I dont actually know what those better things are. I just cant keep the sistesr out of assault AND get them close enought to shoot with the maximum affect. I find that if I dont move forward, my army just gets shot up. if I move forward, then my army gets shot up and none of it servives the close combat that ensew's.

oh wait, nix that. There arent very many sisters who can get the heavy bolters. that was just in the warhammer 40k rule book. it changed in chapter aproved. the battle sisters lost heavy flamers and heavy bolters. are they just making the army worse with each revision? if this trend continues we may not want to see the new witch hunters codex.

The thing with Sisters is that when the WH codex comes out, they may have BS 4. This means they are as accurate and well-armed as Marines. However, they are a lot cheaper. That is their advantage- cheaper than Marines. To exploit this advantage, use a lot of Sisters. A lot. Otherwise, you waste your main strength.

I dont think Sisters need the BS increase, in any case it will doubtless bump up the cost.

I dissagree with Mel too (Heresey), I play sisters as a focused shooty army, it is exactly the principle I use, you focus every thing yyou can onto one target until it is down to half strength then switch your focus

I would not take 6 man (woman?) squads with HBs even if I could, you are talking nearly 100 points for a HB effectively, and if you take down 2 you are faced with moral checks, (pass the plasma cannon)
