Hey there everyone. I'm very new to WH40k and have started to build up an Orc army. I recently baught the Orc Lootas & Burnas 5 pack and was wondering what the best way to build them is. Are there any specific build for a unit of 5 that I can make from these bits?

You can build either 4 lootaz or 4 burnas, plus a mek, I believe. Also, remember that you can use the extra parts to turn regular boyz into lootaz/burnaz.

With 3 Loota/Burna boxes and a few spare boyz, I was able to build 12 Lootas and 12 Burnas, and the obvious 3 Meks.

One spiffy thing to note is that the Mek sprue comes with some entertaining bits that you can use to give more flavor to other orks; such as a different style big shoota and rokkit launcha, or the ammo back-pack with the grot stickin' out of it.:party2:

Never forget you can just build your own out of regular boys.
Lootas: use spare plastic space marine assault cannons, plasma cannons, heavy bolters etc. Just mount them as the orks are holding them, and add a spify backpack. Ironically the sentinal from IG comes with a perfect ammo packet that many gamers throw in a store bitz box.

Burnas: terminator heavy flamer arms look perfect when mounted on an ork boy. Gives the army a feel of that the pain boys have been modifying orks. Also consider sentinal heavy flamers or even the scorchas off killa kans/ork dreads.

Bottom line is lots of players throw bitz in a stores bitz box which are great for ork players. Most of my "elite" or specialist boys are built out of spare toss aways or stuff from my space marines army. I find a mix of regular stock ork models like the new lootas/ burnas, and a few boys who look like they made their own weapons really looks the part of orks. Give the army that loota and scavenger feel.

I too started Orks in January and having now built a 1500 point army am amazed how versatile the plastic models are. Basically all plastic models appear to be the same but with a few extra bits on them. Ie tankbustas are little different from the Boyz with Rokkits from the Boyz pack, it is just that if you get the metal ones you get a variation in design and more detailed models; Kommandos are the same as boyz, but they have backpacks etc etc. As has been said already, you can use things like backpacks to make boyz into Kommandos, use the Burnas from Lootas and Burnas for the burna Kommandos, basically you can do anything.

I see it all as follows: If you build a Necron army you can build 1500 point army for about £170, but you can't change it, if you want different models you have to buy a special pack. However to build a 1500 point Ork army is going to cost more like £230 (please do not criticise these costs, I realise it entirely depends how much you pay and what you get, they are both real examples but it is the principle that matters) but for that you get a much wider variation. ie if you have 6 Boyz packs of 10, then included you can make 6 boys with Rokkits which you can either have as a tankbusta squad or can put them into you Boyz units, this principle stands for everything and makes Orks much more flexible and simpler to convert than any other army I have worked with before (Space Marines, Eldar, Tau and Necrons)

Back to Lootas and Burnas. Get yourself an extra pack of Boyz and use the legs, bodies and heads of normal boyz to use all of the Loota and Burna bits, this will then give you cheap additional models to vary your list and try different things out.

I'll see if I can pop a picture up for you, with proper backpack it looks really nice. I used the assault cannon for the gun, then some extra ravenwing bitz to build the pack.
