While your technique on the devilfish is great, I find that it is too busy. You have many elements at play here, with the explosion camouflage and the writing. If you want both it might actually work better if the written characters were smaller and did not take up as much space on the beige surfaces. This would make the colors and designs less overwhelming as the large brown patterns would be noticed first and the red writing would be a nice secondary motif as the viewer takes more time to look at your details.
