I've gone ahead and copied Yak's index to the front page of the daily picture forum thread. To let everyone know, Yak is also working on one for the daily conversion thread.

Thanks again Yak. You may life easy. (you don't happen to do taxes as well, do you? )

The Yak, please don't hate me, but not everybody has the same page numbers. I show several posts per page, 30. The maximum in the User CP is 40.

That means different page numbers for different users.

For example, your pages 78 and 79 are condensed to my page 39.

The indexes are still good, though. People will just need the same posts per page as you have. So what's your current setting? Just give that, and then people can reset theirs if they want to use the index. Maybe post it at the beginning of the index in bold letters.

What's more accurate, if you want to go to a whole lot of trouble (which I wouldn't recommend...it'd be suicidal) you would link to the individual posts.

Of course, there's a risk to that, too (I've been around for 3 1/2 years. I've been through a lot of site rebuilds and had to reindex information before). If you link to the individual posts, the #1, #2, etc, then you can be screwed if the site upgrades have a different URL coding for posts.

Not trying to burst your :ballon:. Just know what you're getting into if you start indexing pages.

Would it have been better to use the Post number link rather than the permalink?

I'm gearing up to start the index of the Conversions of the day, so any advice is welcome.

Changing the posts per page DOES change the index for that user...hmmm.
the post number link seems to be the better choice. I shall use that link from now on in the code

I've never fooled around with the permalink. That's new to me. You're venturing into unchartered territory, my friend! Maybe permalinks won't melt like the permafrost and will always work.

Maybe it's the numbering of them that should change. Instead of linking to quoted page numbers, quote the post numbers.

I don't know. I don't want to come in and muddy the waters. As long as they go to the appropriate pics, it probably doesn't matter.

Unless Blackhat gets itchy. And disappears into Southeast Asia again.
