Looking at the site : WARMACHINE > Books :: Privateer Press
Prime remix takes the main rulse plus the first 3 expansions to those rules and puts them into a single book.
Chanses are that the basic mechanics of the game are unchanged, but a lot of models now out might not be usable. - check the site though as it does have downloadable quickstart rules WARMACHINE > Downloads :: Privateer Press

All the models are usable. Prime remix, like overmind stated has the first 3 expansions in it. This means it has the comprehensive rules for the game and the unit types for the game. There are a good number of erratas and fixes that they put into prime remix. A lot of people starting the game buy a copy of remix and buy the faction deck they want to play(which gives them the updated stats/rules for all of the units in their faction of choice.

Prime Remix also contains a significant amount of unit-specific errata, as well as errata to the core rules and mechanics.

You can get a pretty good grasp on the game by reading Prime. To really learn to play properly, though, you will need Prime Remix. Some of the rules in Prime are simply not accurate at all, any more.

For example, they completely re-did huge sections of the rules for line of sight, intervening models, and elevation. These changes can be found in Prime: Remix and Escalation (and probably in the online Errata and Clarifications document) but not in the original Prime.

No. It has stats for all the units that were in Prime (and maybe some from Escalation--I'm really not sure).

There are several other books, all with stats for various units in them. Escalation, Superiority, Apotheosis...I don't really remember what all books there are, now, but neither Prime nor Prime Remix have the rules for every unit in them.

No, Prime Remix have the rules for the units originally included in Prime.
Escalation is the first expansion, cotaining a new warcaster and lots of other stuff for each faction.
Apothesis is the second expansion and focuses completely on warcasters and each factions unique warjack.
Superiority is the third, and it contains a new epic 'caster for each faction along a lot of new stuff (like cavalry).

Legends, the fourth expansion, releases this autumn.

There are card decks for each faction that contains every card for all released units so far (not counting the Allies and the Pirates).

Escalation, Apothesis and Superiority introduced a lot of new rules in WM (Cavalry, 'jack marshals, unit attachments, weapon attachments, Epic warcasters, bonded Warjacks etc.) and the goal of REMIX was to compile all that, included with slightly updated rules and a FAQ and errata in the book, in one book.

If you want the rules for the units, you need the faction card decks.
