Rather basic question, shoudl be easy

Ok, so I recieved a number of Tau models for christmas, as well as the Battle for Maccragge. When playing against marines, I realised I wasn't quite clear on the order of wounds/saves. Here's the question:

When attacking a unit with multiple units, or indeed with a unit that contains different weapon types, does the other player get so save after each set of weapons has finished rolling for hits/wounds, or after each unit has done so, or after everyone firing on the unit that turn has don so? Also, can a model use multiple saves in one turn, or is there a limit?

As for the order, the rules don't say one way or the other. Most people which I have played with do it by weapon type within a unit firing first though. EG: 2 SM squads with plasma weapons, roll to hit, wound and save (if applicable) with unit A's plasma, then unit A's bolters, then the same for unit B.
As for a limit on the number of saves/turn. There isn't one, a save is taken for every single successful wound unless the weapon denies the use of saves.
Keep in mind that if the unit targeted has mixed armour you need to roll saves in batches.

The order is....
Shots from a unit form sets, all hits from one unit happen simultaneously.
Sp, if your unit A and B were shooting at unit x, you would wrap it up as follows.
Declare unit A as shooting at x. check LOS and range. Fire, count up hits, while they recommend you roll all dice at once, in this case it's no necessary as long as you keep in mind that they are all happening simultaneously. Next, roll to wound, same as before. then, remove models that don't get saves before assigning the other hits. Roll saves, and the owning player removes what models he wishes as casualties.
If you kill the unit, then unit B can declare its shooting elsewhere, as you declare unit by unit, after resolving. Its all in the shooting section, p 18.

He may use any number of saves he has, but can use only one save (no mater the type) against any one wound. So, you can't take a cover save and an invulnerable save against a lascannon shot, but you can use a cover save vs the lascannon shot and normal armour against a bolter wound.
