Hi there, I'm a new 40K player, planning to buy a 1500 point Dark Angels army. I don't own a single thing yet (not even rulebook/SM codex) so some of the point values may be a bit off... advice appreciated before I buy!

Should I sub Lascannons for Plasma Cannons in the 5-man Tacsquads?
Should I sub A/C+CCW Dread for the shooty dread as a countercharge option?

Tactical/Fire Support:
5x Tacmarines, 1x Plasma Cannon, 1x Plasma Gun - 105

Heavy Support:

8x Tacmarines, 4x Missile Launcher - 200

Dreadnaught, TL Lascannons, Missile Launcher (not sure if there is points for Venerable, Tank Hunter, EA) - 135 or 173?

Predator Annihillator, TL Lascannons, HB Sponsoons (prefer moving fire and anti-infantry option) - 130

Whirlwind - 75 (not sure if there is points for this)

Fast Support

3x Ravenwing Land Speeder Tornado, Assault Cannon, HB - 240

1558 total, probably some PVs are wrong

No, plasma cannons are fine, as long as you have some S9 elsewhere, like ona dreadnought.

Since your tactical squads won't have lascannons, have a shooty dread as the following:
Venerable Dreadnought, tank hunter, Twin-linked Lascannon, missile launcher, extra armour, 170 pts

HQ:
Reclusiarch, Bolt Pistol, Terminator Hons, Frags, Jump Pack - 130

It's actually 122 pts. This is a good HQ option.

Assault:
10x Assault Marines, 2x Plaspistols, Vet Sarge, BP, Powerfist, Frags - 265

It's 260 pts. Another great unit for SM, especially when it's coupled with the chaplain.

Scouts:
6x Scouts, 1x Missile Launcher - 135

I wouldn't bother with scouts, I find Sniper rifles to be too expensive for their effectiveness and the bad armour save tends to be poor in assault.

Tactical/Fire Support:
5x Tacmarines, 1x Plasma Cannon, 1x Plasma Gun - 105

5x Tacmarines, 1x Plasma Cannon, 1x Plasma Gun - 105

Add an extra guy to each of these.

8x Tacmarines, 4x Missile Launcher - 200

An excellent Heavy support option, that's why I have 5 of them.

Use it like I mentioned above. Good against tanks.

Might as well give it extra armour, being to move out of an enemy's LOS when you're stunned is invaluable.

It's 85 pts.

A good option. I love these, great against hoardes as well as heavy armour troops.

With my changes, you're at 1452 pts. I would drop the Whirlwind and add another 6 man Tactical squad with plasma cannon and plasma gun (120 pts). You'll have 13 pts, It doesn't really matter where you use them.

No reason to buy these, a tactical squad can do anything these dudes can, only better.

If you take 2 weapon upgrades, then though in another bolter body gaurd.

6 man squads basically.

I suggest you also get 2 lascannons, more tactical flexablity in the future.

Predators arent the best heavy choice. Your better off with another dev squad.

Anything a whirlwind can do, a land speeder can.

Id play some games with proxy models with these first, see if you actually like them.

The whirldwind can be quiet good against hordes, but so are more landspeeders.



Finally, why are you DAs? Nothing in list this really needs you to be them, id suggest you claim your a successor chapter to them, and consider some triats, before you go buy stuff.

Testing with some proxies sounds like a good idea.

Hmm, I might do just that. I guess the next step is to get the SM codex.
